Okay, so Steam had the first three Virtual Villagers games on for $2.50 each, so I figured I'd give them a try. So I'm playing the first game and one of my starting villagers HATES WORK. Like, that's his trait. I have nicknamed him Senor Dumbass on account of how often I have to put put him back on task. (Why Senor? Felt like it.) So anyway...

QotD

Me: Okay, Senor Dumbass, you are allowed to eat, you are allowed to drink and you are allowed to research. THAT IS IT.
Ryan: So he's a grad student?

Yep. Sounds right.

Tess: stupid dragon!
Tess: whatever, I don't even have pants and I'm totally going to pwn you. eventually. after you burn me some more with fire.

Where WOULD we be without videogames?

Speaking of which, Ryan and I finally made it to 2008 and bought an Xbox 360. Along with Final Fantasy XIII, Mass Effect 1 and Bioshock. So far I've had a chance to play some FFXIII. I'm pretty sure even I'll be unable to get lost in this game! Except for the part where I sometimes can't find staircase. Why do they never oppress people in well lit cities? It would make heroing about so much easier.

Also, I think I may have set a new record for shortest time between declaring I like a character and the character dying. :p

I am home! Ten hours of driving is REALLY LONG! Also, the people at Dunkin' Donuts put WAY too much sugar in their coffee. I was worried there wouldn't be ENOUGH sugar because I just said milk and sugar and I usually get a double double with milk. But no, it was RIDICULOUSLY sweet. Insane.

We went shopping last night after the conference. So now I can say I've been in Macy's. I am far too poor for Macy's, but I have been in one. I went to Borders for the siren call of AMERICAN COVER PRICES. I was good though and only picked up the first Song of Ice and Fire book (yes, I'm finally caving). Partly because the British postdoc we adopted at the conference got the only copies of a couple other things I was looking at. :p

Oh, and I got Rune Factory 2 because it looks fun. Though I am confused why there are two Gamestops in one mall. :p

Also, did you know Long Branch, NJ has a sizable Brazilian community? We found this out while talking to the staff at the Brazilian place that we went to for supper. It was the awesomest buffet ever, they charged by the pound. Dinner for all three of us came to $21, including these amazingly awesome fresh juices. And the food was soooooooooo good, there was amazing squash. The less adventurous members of our group went to a fancier place. Their tip was more than our meal. :p

Dear assorted stores:

It is November 8th. Step AWAY from the Christmas music.

NON-SEASONS GREETINGS,

Yubsie

I'm playing Fallout. Not the shiny Fallout 3 that looks very cool and just came out. No, no, the ORIGINAL Fallout, which will actually run on my laptop. :P My poor processor just can't handle modern games. :p I could probably get a desktop that can handle more for a decent price. But that would involve having room for a DESK, which I don't. :p (Maybe when we move to Laura's townhouse in the summer :p) But the original Fallout is fun too!

Also, Tess sent me all her hair because she binned and removed extraneous ages from it all. Except... now I'm realizing I don't have a lot of the MESHES. Oops.

Kirby Superstar officially has the lamest co-op play EVER. Ryan noticed that there was wireless co-op when you only have one cartridge and two DS's. Great, right? Let's play!

The cartridgeless player has to look at the screen of the other DS, while using THEIR DS to control their character.

Yeah, that lasted about two minutes. ;p
yubsie: (Default)
I watched the Battlestar Galactica miniseries today. What took me so long? Seriously, this is great stuff.

I successfully called three out of four Cylons. Mind you, I have a feeling I was supposed to suspect. Did not call the Surprise Revel Cylon from the end. :p

Does the fandom hate Roslin? I seem to recall the fandom hating Roslin. I... like Roslin. :p

I'm also fond of Lee. And Starbuck entertains me. And Gaius is interesting.

Also, I adore the crew chief more than I'm meant to, I'm pretty sure. :p

Now I think I'll install Alpha Centauri. Because... xkcd made me do it
yubsie: (Default)
I beat Curse of Monkey Island yesterday. It was great fun. I heart that game liek woah. :p

And of course, today being Sunday, I played Sims. :p Poor Dawn Tam is starting to wonder if she's the only lesbian teen in the neighborhood. Gotta loved randomized orientation. (There are actually at least two other lesbian teens in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, they're her aunt [Hyacinth Tam] and her aunt's girlfriend [Autumn Washburne]) Though at least she's a Popularity sim, so she's not distraught about her lack of dating potential. She's happy to befriend the random girls she brings home from school. :p

And Del and Sue had their baby. A son named Anything. He was born in the middle of a date, actually. :p And yet they still managed to have a dream date. :p Sue is a very bizarre Popularity sim and never rolled a want to throw a graduation party. Del did though, so she got to have the party. Sue got to just quietly move back to the neighborhood with Anything. :p Who didn't get accidentally left behind, yay!

Also, Destiny smustled with a llama at the graduation party.

It was awesome plus bonus pictures )

... And Things That Go Bump in the Night by [livejournal.com profile] aeshna_uk

In which Luke walks in on Sarah Jane, Jack and a riding crop. :p

Also, finally rid of Facebook wedding ads. Now I get BABY ads. Because clearly I have a baby. :p

I beat Avernum today. It was exciting. After first encountering a Spiderweb game as a demo in middle school, I actually BEAT one. Take THAT Emperor Hawthorne! I killinated you! Now for Avernum 2. :p

I also bought a microwave stand and an external harddrive today. The microwave stand to create room in my kitchen. The external harddrive to create room on my computer. :p

Dear MarioKart:

They're called FENCES. Please learn to have them. :p

Qotd!

[livejournal.com profile] admiraljello: Mine is a manly squee.

Oh Jello. :p

Yun got back from Vancouver two days ago and brought a nasty cold with her. Now half the lab has the cold, obviously including me. Heaven forbid I have an immune system. :p I'd curse her, but we haven't seen her since, so she's probably suffered enough.

Today I found out that Western does midterms on Saturday nights. I can't think of a more exciting way to spend a Saturday night. I found this out because I'm stuck invigilating midterms on two Saturdays. Yep, just how I want to spend my weekends. It's not like this complicates my plan to go see a show in Toronto with Vicki or anything.

I has Fire Emblem! I'm very excited, maybe this time I'll actually manage to play all the way through. :p

I picked up a passport application last night. And MAN what a pain that will be. There's a bunch of stuff that I need a guarantor to sign. The guarantor has to have known me for at least two years. This is problematic, seeing as everyone who has known me for at least two years is kinda NOT IN LONDON. What are you supposed to do if you need a passport within two years of moving? Well? Gah. And then I need references. At least I had to get a new birth certificate when I got my SIN, because oh yeah, the birth certificate that was issued when I was born? Is not valid proof of Canadian citizenship. I've got an idea! How about we go with I was born in Canada. So give me a freaking Canadian passport. Wouldn't that be easier?

So my feet? Totally killing me. We did the geek tour of Moncton today. :p It's a tradition to go to Moncton and geek out a couple weeks after the con. This year, with con being IN Moncton, we enjoyed being there with no SCHEDULES. In previous years, we all took the bus down, but this year Bill rented a van for us to drive down in. We started off at Champlain Place/Chapters and scattered from there. Vicki, Ryan and I hit Comic Hunter, Mad City Comics and Gamezilla. And a pet store to get a new collar for Elphaba. :p

I spent a LITTLE more than I meant to, but at least most of it was stuff I was planning to pick up in the near future. The haul/damage:

- Two new tops plus two tank tops to wear under low cut tops (not something I planned on buying, but a good price overall)
- Kingdom Hearts (One of the first games I wanted for my new PS2. I can borrow the Final Fantasy games from Ryan. :p)
- Lego Star Wars (I played it a little bit on my brother's Xbox and it was fun, so I picked it up for PS2. :p)
- Exile (New Star Wars book. Definitely a planned expense because it's an AARON ALLSTON book and if anyone can fix Legacy, it's him!)
- Fables: Arabian Nights (and days) (This is the infamous volume seven I ordered from Hobbyton in JULY. Yeah, they were never going to get it in. :p)
- Full Moon o Sagashite volume 2
- Skip Beat! volume 1 (the preview in Shojo Beat looked interesting
- Tsubasa volume 7
- Good Witch of the West volume 1 (Gamezilla had a buy three manga get one free sale on, and it looked like it might be cute. :p)
- yummy fudge

The sushi place we usually go to on this trip seems to be closed, so we went to a Chinese buffet instead. It was soooooooooo good. The ultimate sign of good food: Our group actually stopped talking because we were too busy EATING. :p

So far I've managed to read the Fables, which was SO SHINY. Frau Totenkinder remains SO awesome while KNITTING! And oh DEAR Beauty. There is going to be an EXPLOSION between her and Beast. And the story about the two wooden people was so CUTE and so WIBBLY and SAD too!

The hardest part will be holding out on buying volume eight. I might order it when the seventh Runaways digest comes out in May. And of course, I want more Lucifer.

I am addicted to North American comics and it's ALL NEIL GAIMAN'S FAULT!

I've always had a knack for excitement happening when I go away for a couple days. In the past, this has been limited to things blowing up on the internet. No more though. Ryan and I went to his grandmother's cottage and downtown Sackville caught fire.

I thought his mother was joking when I came to breakfast Saturday morning and she told me that "Sackville burned down last night!". Of course, I also thought Phil was joking when he told me the World Trade Center had been hit by an airplane on September 11. :p

I haven't been in to town to see the damage myself yet, but just looking at the photos on Will's blog is pretty stunning.

You don't realize how many apartments can fit overtop of a few businesses until something like this happened. Hard to believe this fire managed to take out 32, but it did and it's just awful.

On happier things, the trip to the Miramichi was a blast. We did a ridiculously evil jigsaw puzzle that I want to BURN. Ryan and I DESTROYED his mother and grandmother and Taboo. It's much easier to avoid the forbidden words when you can just make fandom comparisons left right and centre. (For Pirate "Captain Jack Sparrow!", for Stupid "Jayne is very...") They were starting to feel bad for this Jayne person who was in so many clues. :p After that we played Boggle, which was HARD because it only allowed four letter words! Then we played some crazy world travel game where it took me FOREVER to get from the Phillipines to Japan despite them being two squares apart because the weather kept screwing me over. :p We ended with Scattegories, which was really fun even if O is, like, the worst letter EVER. :p

Vicki and I watched The Incredibles today, which is very fun. No capes!
yubsie: (Default)
So, today's "Wow, small internet" moment:

I just found out that [livejournal.com profile] sanjuno (Ryan's roommate) reads [livejournal.com profile] ravenclaw_devi's fanfiction. The world is a strange, STRANGE place. :p

The NMR machine is on the blink at work. IT's causing frustration all around.

I have to present tomorrow at the meeting. I don't wanna. :p

Oh! My Exile trilogy came today! It's so fun! I just made a Firefly party. Well, not the whole cast since I only get six characters.

Mal- Pole fighter (because he's no good with swords), knows a thing or two about poison.
Zoe- Sword fighter, knows a bit of assassination
Wash- Archer/thief
River- Mage with Mage Lore
Simon- Priest/Mage/Alchemist
Book- Priest (duh) with Item Lore

Yesterday was crazy busy. Started off bright and early going to the lab, where I found the crystals that STILL excite me greatly. I also finally got my Wild Toads t-shirt.

After that, it was off to G&G spirit day, where we discovered that we all still remember last year's spirit dance, even if we WERE too eager to start the Macarena section. :p We learned this year's spirit dance, which is to Sweet Home Alabama. It's DELIGHTFULLY silly. :p

After that, it was anime club time. We watched the FMA dub while playing boardgames. It seems to be a decent dub, though Al's voice goes up and down in quality. Still, when he's good, he's GOOD. I played Apples to Apples. Silly Vicki played "My love life" when I was judging for which card best suited the word "frightening". Needless to say, she did NOT get the card that round. :p When the gaming died down, we watched King of Bandit Jing. It's very SPECIAL. It amuses me in its absurdity. :p Then we watched Figure 17, which is SO PRETTY. We only had time for one episode because each episode is 45 minutes. So we didn't get to see anything I hadn't seen before, but it was still enjoyable. Looks like the manga only has two volumes, so I'm going to try to pick up the second volume soon. When I have half the series, I might as well get it all. :p It's 13 episodes in all, but that's spread over six volumes, so it might be a little expensive for me to buy it. At any rate, I'd like to see the other two episodes on the DVD the club owns. It really is pretty, and I like what I've seen so far.

Amusing dub casting for that, incidently. Tsubasa's voice is CHER. Umm, the Wolf's Rain character, not the scary person. :p She's also in Angel Tales, FLCL, Witch Hunter Robin and Chobits. Cher is the most amusing one though. :p Oh, and we're apparently all crazy. Because although Hikaru's dub voice sounded like Kari and we were all sure it was... it apparently isn't. :p

This morning I dragged myself out of bed to make it to church on time. Which I barely managed. :p The gathering hymn reminded me that I have a paper due. They WOULD decide to sing about "God created Earth and Heaven/God commanded light to be/Seperated... waters" when I have a Classics essay about creation stories due. :p I have said paper typed up now, at any rate. It became slightly more coherent in the process, but it still has a way to go. Oh, and I need to cut the better part of a page to get it down to the maximum. Yay for destructive editing!

Star gentle uterus!

Aka I was watching Sailor Stars again. It's like they stopped trying to make the attacks make sense and just threw a bunch of English together. Maybe this is the wandering uterus that explains MPreg!

Ami is so cute. She's all *fangirls* *blushes* "But I don't really know much about it." Liar. :p

I wish if they were going to change the theme on us, they would consistently give us the romaji line so we can still sing along. Because it's a cool theme and I want to sing along!

Finally: WHO KEEPS GIVING USAGI STICKS?

Crazy dinner night was great fun, though the oven ready lasagna noodles were unsuccessful. We had enough leftovers to not have to cook today, which is exciting. Of course, there's crazy dishes that need to be done now. :p I lost pretty thoroughly at Munchkin, but it was fun. I was a cleric and then got hit with a necrophobia curse. That made being a cleric rather pointless. Also, it's NOT the same thing as the necrophilia curse, which does not exist. Though it would be funny. :p

Moncton is getting another comic shop

Their own Comic Hunter. You know what that means, right guys? Yep, more people to try to get to be vendors at Animaritime. :p

We were going to see A Midsummer's Night's Dream last night, but it was raining so we didn't. We picked up a new game at Hobbyton. It's Gloom and, though it makes us horrible people, it's crazy mad fun! You make your characters' lives miserable and then you KILL them. What's not to love about a game where the player who had the worst day goes first? It's a really neat design too. The cards are clear, so points from one card can show through the next if the positioning is appropriate. Then we watched Constantine, which was actually good except for the parts that weren't. :p

In honour of the last week of the House Cup, I give you...

Nicky's Gonna Murder Me

Because instead of apologizing, we sing about it. :p

It looks like hte rain is finally clearing up, so hopefully the 7:30 performance will be outside.
