I've always had a knack for excitement happening when I go away for a couple days. In the past, this has been limited to things blowing up on the internet. No more though. Ryan and I went to his grandmother's cottage and downtown Sackville caught fire.

I thought his mother was joking when I came to breakfast Saturday morning and she told me that "Sackville burned down last night!". Of course, I also thought Phil was joking when he told me the World Trade Center had been hit by an airplane on September 11. :p

I haven't been in to town to see the damage myself yet, but just looking at the photos on Will's blog is pretty stunning.

You don't realize how many apartments can fit overtop of a few businesses until something like this happened. Hard to believe this fire managed to take out 32, but it did and it's just awful.

On happier things, the trip to the Miramichi was a blast. We did a ridiculously evil jigsaw puzzle that I want to BURN. Ryan and I DESTROYED his mother and grandmother and Taboo. It's much easier to avoid the forbidden words when you can just make fandom comparisons left right and centre. (For Pirate "Captain Jack Sparrow!", for Stupid "Jayne is very...") They were starting to feel bad for this Jayne person who was in so many clues. :p After that we played Boggle, which was HARD because it only allowed four letter words! Then we played some crazy world travel game where it took me FOREVER to get from the Phillipines to Japan despite them being two squares apart because the weather kept screwing me over. :p We ended with Scattegories, which was really fun even if O is, like, the worst letter EVER. :p

Vicki and I watched The Incredibles today, which is very fun. No capes!

That is SO true. I'm picturing all sorts of clues now, even though I've never played the game. (Example: love = Jayne and Vera. :p ) And yes, poor Jayne! :p

I think I read that bit about Sackville on cnn.com. If it's the story I'm thinking of, it was very sad. (Of course, it's sad anyway.) Is that near you?

I'm glad you had fun ^_^

We totally need to bring up Anime-Taboo at the very first animaritime meeting.

Wow. That's awful. O_O

Regarding the happier things, what the? Since when does Boggle limit you to four-letter words, or was that a house rule?

According to this (http://www.gameroom.com/gamebits/RULES/103_Boggle_Rules.html), it's a minimum of three letters. I checked our game first, but as I suspected, the rules seem to have been lost a long time ago. :P There's a guy who put together an online game (http://www.gtoal.com/wordgames/scorcher7/rules.html) with a 5x5 board, and he restricts the minimum to four-letter words, but he calls that a modification. Note his creative spelling when he tells you what kinds of words are allowed...

I dunno. Maybe the rules I found are different? Maybe one of us misread them? Either way, I'm still using my three-letter words. :P

Oh my God, the pictures of the fire are incredible. It's a miracle no one was hurt.

How many of your friends are affected by this fire?

Is there a donation collection agency that is NOT the Red Cross?

I'd forgotten Ryan was from Miramichi.... though he's from "the other side". I actually met most of the people I knew from MVHS in University :)

Did you guys go and bum around Zellers like the teens in "Nights Below Station Street"? That's all I think of every time I go there.
