Comment to this entry and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom

I was asked for Firefly, Rent and one of my choice. Which is Battlestar Galactica. )

So, since Adama/Roslin is the latest addition to my rather short OTP list, I started thinking about the list. And realized it's a depressing, DEPRESSING list. Seriously!

All of Yubsie's Full Blown OTPs EVER

Han/Leia: Actually did okay... other than the fact that one son is dead, the other son is EVIL and dead and their daughter lives at Donna Noble's Home for Abused Characters. :p

Cher/Hubb: Were in WOLF'S RAIN. :p

Angel/Collins: "Hey Nuki, have you seen... RENT?" :p

Zoe/Wash: Are the HMS TESSIE DEADSHIP.

Bill Adama/Laura Roslin: Are on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

Carrot/Angua: Are in the best shape on the list. Now if only we could get Tess to stop shipping them...

In conclusion: I need to stop letting Tess near my OTPs. :p

[livejournal.com profile] pirate_lass and [livejournal.com profile] helplessdancer both got me!

So I talk about ten icons )

Also, the bonus episode of Torchwood this week? AMAZING. And whatcha mean TWO MORE WEEKS?

... wow, mediaplayer. Wow. :p

So, the New York Theatre Workshop of Rent? Is SERIOUSLY WEIRD.

First of all there's this incredibly weird song where they're... playing Monopoly with Benny? I assume it's a metaphor. Like, I thought "Contact" was confusing, but it has nothing on "Do A Little Business" :p

It's kinda awesome. :p

Mimi MOOS when she gets better.

Instead of "One Song Glory" we get "The Right Brain".

Mark is much more hung up on Maureen. The lead in to "I'll Cover You" is roughly...
Mark: It's Maureen, don't look! Is she with anyone?
Roger: You just said not to look!
Angel: We'll never be that desperate.
Collins: You'll never have to be.
Angel: Been hearing violins all night.
Collins: Anything to do with me... Are we a thing?
Angel: Darling, we're everything.

And then there's "Goodbye Love". HOLY COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FEELING BATMAN.

You know the "Mark has got his work, Mark's in love with his work, Mark hides in his work." part?

MARK SINGS IT. MARK sings "From facing my failure, facing my loneliness, facing the fact I live a lie. Yes I live a lie, tell you why, I'm always preaching not to be numb, when that's how I thrive!"

Roger responds with "You don't live a lie, tell you why. You never finish your film because the standards you set are to high. But the truth is you're the one with the talent and the drive. The truth is you're the one of us to survive.

And their scene ends with "Love you. Call." "Love you too. I hate the fall." This is after a whole bit about "Is there anything I you need in Santa Fe?" "Look, if you need me, just call and I'll come back."

That's you know, only COMPLETELY THE OPPOSITE of the final version. What with "You shouldn't leave!" "Screw you!" "You suck!" "No, YOU SUCK!" "Well all my friends are gonna die! EMOOOOOOOOOO!"

SO, my default icon TOTALLY clashes with the Valentine's Day colour scheme. Thanks LJ, now my eyes are burning. :p

I watched Hogfather today and yesterday. It's so shiny! Teatime's voice is SO CREEPY! And DEATH and Susan were BANG ON. I love both of them SO MUCH. :p My only real complaint about the movie was that Nobby looked much too human. In general though, it was splendidly done. And a lot of my favourite lines were left intact. "They need fantasies to be human. To be the place where falling angel meets rising ape." Pratchett, I love you so.

And the match girl scene! I love that scene SO MUCH. Albert trying to explain why the little match girl is supposed to die and DEATH having NONE OF THAT! "You're not allowed to do that." "But the Hogfather is. The Hogfather gives gifts, and what better gift is there than a future?" LOVE!

Also, there should be a rule against certain songs shuffling up when I'm studying. Nothing quite like studying for a midterm and then suddenly hearing "I wish I could go back to college...". I informed the song that actually, she didn't. :p

Inorganic midterm tomorrow. Hard to study for, but hopefully it won't be deadly. The one from last year looked manageable, at any rate.

Oh! Oh! Oh! Vicki and I were looking at old Grindelwald (a Harry Potter RPG that I used to play in a couple years ago before it died an unfortunate death) stuff last night. We realized that the PB for Padma Patil looked awfully familiar. We eventually realized that she was...

INARA

I'll never be able to look at Padma the same way again. This is SO going in the House Cup.

Oh, and Rent in Italian is AMAZING. :D

Because clearly I hadn't had enough Tess-ship induced trauma, Gwenna and I watched Rent today. We tried to make our brother watch it, but he's no fun. :p But I got to watch Rent and sing along. I was so proud of myself, I never ONCE slipped into "La Vie SLoshed Stu" when singing along with "La Vie Boheme". My brain TRIED to, but the right words always came out. :p Mark so UTTERLY needs a hug. I've said it before, but it bears repeating. :p

The entire movie, Gwenna kept reminding me that she saw it on Broadway. Like I didn't remember. Not that I'm jealous or anything. :p

We keep confusing my mother by quoting Notes on a Fridge. We're going shopping tomorrow, so we keep declaring that "The female of the species acquires consumer goods for bonding purposes." Because we're geeks like that. :p Of course, my mother is confused when we quote Firefly CANON, so quoting Firefly fanfiction is doubly confusing. :p (My father and brother at least recognize the line as being River-esque, even if they don't know what it's from exactly :p)

My brother, incidently, is strange. He keeps fixing his clothes with DUCT TAPE. Needless to say, my mother is getting me to mend things while I'm here. :p

Hmm, lets see. Still waiting for my starting material to come in at work. I'm more or less ready to start a reaction in the lab, but that requires actually having the chemicals. :p

I made fudge today. Not sure how it turned out yet, since it's still not set. Silly old fridge/freezer doesn't get cold enough. :p Vicki got annoyed because Ryan called when I was in the middle of the fussy stage. Which meant I couldn't leave the kitchen to talk on the phone. She was mean and cranked the volume on the TV when I was having a hard enough time hearing as it WAS. Apparently it is necessary to HEAR the Titanic sink? :p

We also finally balanced money. With her eleven grocery trips against my two phone bills, one grocery trip and a couple miscellaneous activities I wound up owing her... two whole dollars. :p

I went on a Rent iconning spree today. Is it obvious? :p

There is a cat on my keyboard tray. This is making computer use somewhat difficult.

(Guess which cat :p)

And OMG GOBLINS!

Had a ton of fun with Kate yesterday. Got to see the cute puppy, who is cute, though a jumper. :p We watched Rent. She cried, even though she actually KNEW what the "Remember, Tess ships them" warning meant. :p Then she heard La Vie Sloshed Stu and was HIGHLY entertained. :p

Vicki, I now have Sammy's rent cheques. :p

[livejournal.com profile] non_horation: I have no right to laugh :p

How many of us have just been WAITING to hear that? :p

There's also an element of GIP... again. Boy I'm a spam today, eh? :p

The text comes from the lead in to "I'll Cover You" in the stage version.

"Are we a thing?"
"Darling, we're EVERYTHING."

Have I mentioned Angel/Collins turns me into a PATHETIC PILE OF SQUEE? :p I may be hopeless genficcer, but when a ship makes me squee, it makes me SQUEE. :p

Slept nice and late yesterday. There are worst ways to crash. :p

Random Rent comment... I finally figured out how to sum out how adorable Collins and ANgel are. Most couples in musicals dance in their love song because it's a musical. With them, it feels like they're just randomly dancing in the street, and it's too cute for words.

Tess, stop shipping things, pwease. :p

And yes, this was because I was randomly watching the Angel/Collins scenes of the Broadway bootleg yesterday. :p

I read The Little Endless Storybook to Ryan yesterday. With voices. Can you tell I worked in a daycare? The ENdless require an interesting range of voices. Those of you who have heard my voice can understand how I might have a bit of a hard time sounding like white text on a black background. :p

Last night at anime, it was crazy busy business stuff. Well, it started with a pretties exchange as manga and Sandman and Prince of Tennis musical were passed around and everyone awwed the chibi!Endless. Then we did work. Lots of it. :p

There was much discussion of what the blazes we're going to DO with the convention next year. Our baby is all grown up now, but we don't know if we can afford the next size of clothing yet. :p I think we're finally starting to get our heads around the idea that it's not a little baby con anymore, it's getting near the status of medium convention. Though we will miss calling ourselves Ghettocon. :p

Then there was the new Hierarchy of DOOM. Lots of new positions, though I was good and only took on two new ones. :p We finally persuaded [livejournal.com profile] silver_sabre and [livejournal.com profile] nukichan to take over as con chairs. I mean, it was always going to happen, but we finally got them to officially agree. :p Better for them to take over THIS year when there's still [livejournal.com profile] ramenparty and Bill to help them out than next year when we all graduate. :p

We also had the much more simple CLUB exec elections. [livejournal.com profile] ramenparty didn't want to be president again, so now [livejournal.com profile] neekabe gets that fun job. That meant we needed a new vice-president, so I volunteered for that. "Election" is used in the loosest sense of the word here, and actually means "Come on guys, SOMEONE has to do it!"

Finally, we decided what new anime to buy. We decided to do things a bit differently this year and choose a certain number of titles from various genres rather than a total number from everything. This way we have a nice mix, even if most of us voted blind in the mecha genre. (I voted for Desert Punk because it was the one that didn't sound like the others :p) It amuses me that I was the one who pointed out that the unedited DVDs of Naruto aren't out yet. Which, while admittedly being so much WTF, should not need to be pointed out by the person who hasn't even SEEN Naruto, and is frankly scared of it. :p [livejournal.com profile] thecleric007, that Count of Monte Cristo anime and Twelve Kingdoms both made it in... kinda. They tied on the first, second and THIRD ballots. Final conclusion was "Well, we can probably get ONE more DVD into the budget. Besides, odds are at least four things we order will be out of stock." :p We also declared Invader Zim an honorary anime because enough people first saw it at Anime North and ordered it. :p

We did eventually watch something at this meeting. A little half hour thingy that was CREEPY AS HELL and then we all got to walk home in the dark. :p

Now to write my Analytical paper. :p
yubsie: (Default)
So, I quite literally spent the morning slaving in the kitchen. I got home from church and went to work on Vicki's birthday. I made chocolate cupcakes and then washed the dishes. The cupcakes came out of the oven and I went to work on a devil's food cake. Then I... washed the dishes! Then I got to make a big batch of icing and say "SCREW THE DISHES!" :p

I wish I'd put the butter out last night, because it was really hard to mix by hand at first. :p Cocoa is evil to measure. Icing sugar is messy stuff. Also, by the eighth cup of sugar, icing gets very hard to mix. :p

I've decided that my next sewing project should be an apron. Because WOW, my clothes are a mess. :p

Sam and Doug came over to watch Rent. I did homework and enjoyed the general Rentness. I never get tired of how absolutely ADORABLE Angel/Collins is, I really don't. Doug, bless his heart, is a little slow. In the middle of "I'll Cover You", while Sam and I were "Aww"ing, he was all "Wait, does this mean he's gay?" Though I suppose it could have been worse. He could have been watching the broadway version, with the "I like boys" line and STILL not gotten it. :p

Vicki really liked her birthday present, a card game about the French Revolution called Guillotine. The idea is that all the players are rival guillotine operators trying to behead the highest profile nobles for bragging rights in the guillotine operators' locker room. It's really fun, and will doubtlessly be even BETTER with more people. (And yes, if you think this means you, you're probably right :p) We had quite the battle over Marie Antoinette. :p

For Vicki's birthday dinner, we had canneloni and drank chocolate milk from wine glasses. Classy, eh? Then we had the devil's food cake with chocolate icing and chocolate sprinkles. Remember, chocolate milk. SO MUCH CHOCOLATE!

Now I have to write my stupid kinetics paper that I have no clue what I'm doing with.

In other words... we made her and [livejournal.com profile] silver_saber watch Rent. MWAHAHAHAH!
