Jan. 5th, 2009 10:27 pmI has my kitty back! She missed us terribly. And still hates her carrier. Ryan opened her cage at the kennel and she jumped out and started nuzzling him. Then the kennel lady brought out her carrier and she jumped back into the cage. She proceeded to whine the entire way home. It occurred to us that maybe she's afraid that when we put her in her carrier we're going to abandon her like her last owners did (aka the SOULLESS ONES :p) She seemed to calm down an AWFUL lot when we were bringing her towards our building. :p
And I now have Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor because Schroedy was almost out of food. Chapters is right next to PetSmart and they were EVENTUALLY able to track down the nine copies in the back room. Along with "Hey, look at all these other ones that have come out recently! Let's put those on the shelf too!" (I had thought it was odd that I didn't see Millenium Falcon there, but figured maybe it had sold out)
I'm not far in, but what I've read has been BRILLIANT. THIS is what Star Wars books are supposed to feel like!
Kitty is making up for missed cuddles. :p

Nov. 11th, 2008 11:29 pmWoke up feeling pretty wretched this morning. I was going to try to tough it out through the wonders of medication, but then thought the better of it. So I sent my coworkers an email saying I wasn't dead in a ditch (yes, that was the subject line) and decided to take a nap. Man, being a grad student is sweet. :p
When I finally was ready to go in to work, I had the fun problem of "But there's a CAT on my chest." Schroedy is good at helping people take naps, but not at letting them get up afterwards. :p
They've started IR in the class I TA. Except... they haven't actually learned about any of the functional groups that IR is GOOD for. Which leads to a lot of "Yep, the peak you're looking for is that little shoulder. This is why you wouldn't REALLY use IR to figure this problem out." :p
I'm now three episodes into the first season of Battlestar Galactica. Seriously, what TOOK me so long?

Mar. 24th, 2008 11:22 pmThe latest xkcd is made of WIN. LInk because the alt text just clinches it. :p
Schroedinger got a clean bill of health. And apparently was quite good about getting her shots. :p She didn't want the vet to do the paperwork though. She climbed up on the paperwork and demanded attention. The vet's comment was "Wow, well she's not friendly at ALL." :p (And yes, she's sitting on me right now. :p)
I had all the students in the lab at once today. It was chaos. Though it wasn't TOO bad, since half of them went off with the technician to do HPLC while the other half stayed with me to do viscometery. Next week, they switch. :p And then they're done! We're apparently getting near the end of the semester. :p

Mar. 19th, 2008 10:18 pmSo apparently the book I just finished doesn't have a sequel. It sure ended like it has one. :p Considering the protaganist's oldest son was still in the clutches of people who trained him to hate the protaganist. And the protaganist was vowing to rescue him. His friends were telling him he was crazy, and he was insisting that he could do it because he had all the right friends.
Apparently Schroedinger thinks bathrooms are scary places people might never come out of. Because she camps out and guards the door until people DO come out. :p Now that she's settled down she really wants to be where the people are. :p She basically gets magnetically attached to laps. Though she'll settle for feet if I inform her she's not allowed on the computer. :p

I HAS A KITTY!
Mar. 18th, 2008 10:32 pmOne of the pet stores provides space for rescues to adopt their cats rather than sell cats themselves, so I felt okay going through them. So now I have a kitty trying to help type. She's four or five years old. The thing that really drew us to her was how playful she was. And that she likes scritches. :p
We're calling her Schroedinger. :p Though after the saga of "How can we not find the cat? We have a ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT?" we considered Heisenberg. :p She was going a little nuts exploring at first, but has since calmed down. :p
Which is why she's now lying on my lap and purring. :p And, uh, rolling her head onto my computer. :p
( Picture of teh kitty! )

Mar. 17th, 2008 06:46 pmGrah, why doesn't the world understand that grad students have INCOME? It's not GREAT income, but it's income!
Apparently the reason we've had so little luck with the animal shelter is that they get as far as me being a student and Ryan still looking for work and reject us out of hand. How do they think we're LIVING?
I guess I'll have to find a way to clarify this on the application.
I want a kitty. :(

Feb. 16th, 2008 07:59 pmWe applied to adopt a cat today. :D I really hope we get her, she's an utter sweetheart. She's a brown tabby and about a year old. Amusingly, she's smaller than some of the actual KITTENS they had at the shelter. She won me over pretty quickly when I walked by her cage and she started doing something that looked suspiciously like Legolas's "Rub my belleh!" pose. I looked at the other cats, but I kept coming back to her, because I was quite thoroughly won over. :p
So now we play the waiting game. :p

Dec. 25th, 2007 07:03 pmMerry Christmas or whatever you celebrate everyone!
I feel bad for the poor puppy and kitties today. We eat Christmas dinner at lunch, and then we're on our own for supper because usually no one is that hungry or willing to cook. Which, umm, ended with us kinda sorta maybe forgetting to feed the animals THEIR supper. Oops. :p
I spent most of the day reading Making Money because as usual I got the newest Pratchetty goodness from my father for Christmas. And oh MAN, I am never getting page 254 out of my head. SCARY STUFF.
My mother gave me, among other things, a bridal magazine. This should be entertaining. She still thinks I should wear heels. Haha, not happening. For some reason she objects to the totally adorable dyeable satin bridal SNEAKERS I spotted. :p I personally think they're a BRILLIANT idea. :p
We had fun watching Hairspray and Robot today. My brother is now sad that he didn't know about Robot in time to try to convince his English teacher to watch it when they were studying Frankenstein.
Now my brother and I are racing Voyage of the Damned torrents. :p
