Sep. 10th, 2009 09:54 pmLondon Transit Commission, you disappoint. The one consolation about the undergrads being back is supposed to be that the buses run more frequently. So out I walk this morning excited that there would be a 10B for me to catch.
Well, I knew the A's and B's were running, because I saw something like five going in the other direction. Usually, because of where my stop is located, when I see a bus going the other way, there will be one coming around the corner in my direction in about a minute. Yeah... not so much. About twenty five minutes later, the 10B finally showed up. Right about when the regular ten was supposed to show up.
Way to destroy the sole consolation.
And since I seem to be whining this post, I'd also like to complain about the fact that there is a mandatory meeting for all TAs at which we will discuss such thrilling topics as the role of a TA, what makes a good TA and academic integrity. Yeah... doesn't this kinda sound like the kinda stuff that they talk to the newbies about? I'm somewhat confused why exactly the people who have been TAing for years need to go to this meeting. Yeah, yeah, we know we're not allowed to beat the kids no matter how much we might want to.

Jun. 24th, 2009 08:35 pmI hate 9 AM group meetings and the summer bus schedule. It means I have to catch the 8:27 bus. I was running a bit late this morning, so I didn't have time for my tea. Just to throw my lunch together and grab a couple muffins.
Yeah, cue me not being able to find my buspass. So I had to take the 9 instead of the 10 and power walk across campus to get there on time. And it was way too hot for being before nine in the morning.
Later in the day when I went to get coffee, I stepped out of the building and was just hit with a WALL of hot and muggy. Who INVENTED this stupid season?

Oct. 8th, 2006 12:17 pmWell that was the most uncomfortable I've been in a church since I went to my grandparents' church a few years ago and the priest there gave a horribly close minded and hateful homily.
From one thing and another, the church is still on summer mass schedule, which means there's only one mass for the weekend. Which is bad because that's not a congregation, it's a BLOODY CROWD! I do NOT do well in crowds. There's a reason I don't go to the BIG parties. I don't LIKE having people pressing in on me from every side. TOO CROWDED!

Oct. 4th, 2006 02:44 pmApparently there is some sort of rule that every show I'm in must have a cross cast witch. When we did The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in high school, we got a letter from a kid in elementary school saying "Your play was good but... why was the witch a boy?" The cast list for The Wizard of Oz went up today. Despite only having something like four guys in the cast, one of them is playing the Witch of the West. Go figure. :p
I'm killing an hour in the library computer lab. The stupid frosh are writing a midterm in the Cragg every afternoon this week. In MY day we wrote our midterms on PAPER and we LIKED it. Also, Pluto was a planet. :p I really don't see why they switched to this whole electronic thing. It's not nice, kicking all the upper year students out of our HOME every afternoon for a week. This computer lab isn't HALF as nice. The computers don't have CD drives, so it's eerily quiet and more importantly, THE CRAGG IS THE ONLY LAB WITH SCIFINDER. I'm trying to do a literature review here! Scifinder is a MILLION times better than combing databases individually. Plus, the atmosphere is all wrong. There's no tables to sit and work on non-computer stuff on. More importantly, the place is full of non-chemistry students. Half the appeal of the Cragg is being able to talk to the people around you and knowing what they're talking ABOUT. In short... the Cragg is home and this is NOT. :p

Jun. 26th, 2006 02:37 pmSo, reconstructing 18 pages of thesis in one day? Not so much with the fun. :p I'm pretty sure the reconstructed version isn't as good as the old one. :p Also, I have another two hours at work and I DON'T WANT TO WORK ANYMORE! Which I suppose is the natural reaction to recreating EIGHTEEN PAGES. :p
I should fix the flow of a lot of this. But I don't want to. I spent the past five or so hours hours getting it on the screen, I don't want to look at it anymore. I should read more papers. But I spent the past five or so hours staring at the screen. So I don't want to.
I'm actually pretty sure a lot of the new paragraphs are clunky and disjointed and generally icky. But BAH! :p
Yep, real productive, whining on LJ instead of fixing the bad writing. :p

Apr. 28th, 2006 02:18 pmCSI last night was fun.
( Yes, yes it was )
Oh, and Canada may not be getting the new season of Doctor Who until FALL. I want it NOW! We don't NEED to air the hockey playoffs. I want my Doctor Who! And the whole thing about not thinking it wouldn't do as well in the summer? SHUT UP AND AIR IT! I WANT IT NOW! I HATE YOU CBC!
Even re-runs would be nice! C'mon, the hockey playoffs aren't THAT important!
(And yes, I realize saying that about hockey is essentially putting on a big "Oh, PLEASE shoot me now" sign. I would still prefer Doctor Who. :p)

I'm starting to realize that maybe, just maybe, I have limits. And I'm hitting them RIGHT NOW when I can't afford it. Turns out cough drops don't help very much when it hurts to SWALLOW. :p Ooh, but I can have another dose of Neocitron now! It's hard to eat with a sore throat, incidently. Fortunately, I also haven't been particularly hungry.
(Incidently, I'm REALLY sorry my LJ has been nothing except whining the past couple days. Someone is going to bip me soon, I know.)
On the plus side, things are starting to look up on my lab report. I figured out htat my second attempt may have made what I was trying to make after all. Now if only I could find the rest of the data. :p
We also signed the lease for next year. It's so ghetto. He crossed out the old dates and wrote in the new ones. And crossed out Kate's name and wrote in Sam's. :p
The really exciting news is that since Sam paid HER damage deposit, Jacques will be refunding Kate's soon. Kate never actually paid me back for this, so I have $200 coming my way soon, which makes me happy.

And I'm just a little weak on my feet...
Apr. 5th, 2006 09:06 pmMy legs, back, ears and head all ache. My throat is burning. I'm losing my voice. I'm freezing. I have a cough of DOOM. All I want to do is sleep. But I still have so much work to do! Needless to say, this doesn't help my headache. And sitting in my computer chair isn't helping my back and legs.
Kinetics is still barely started, and Organometallics is untouched. My last Analytical lab is finally passed in though.
That was quite an adventure, incidently. Justin emailed me and said that he couldn't find my data and he was going out of time, so he sent me everything else we had and asked me to print and hand it in. I had to go into town to buy more cough drops when I finally woke up (feeling, if anything, worse than I did when I went to bed before). So I got cash and realized that after three years as a MOunt A student, I was going to have to seek out the Helpdesk and buy print credits. Fun times guessing how many I needed, incidently. I realized Justin had forgotten a schematic diagram, so I whipped that up. He also hadn't made a title page, so I had to do that. This was when I realized that I didn't know Phil's last name. My first attempt to remedy this was, of course, the Mount A stalker, hoping to find a Phil that matched his email. That's when I found out Phil goes by his middle name, so is listed as Something P. Something. Obviously, this was a dud. So I had to go down to Duffy's office and ask him my own lab partner's name. Then I could finally pass it in.
I ended up going to the Chemistry potluck for about half an hour even though the karate club was going out for Chinese food. I had fun explaining over and over again why I wasn't eating anything. I did end up trying one of the yummy meatballs because everyone was raving over them. I also had a deep fried Oreo, because WTF, deep fried Oreos? I can just FEEL my arteries clogging up. It was kinda tasty but DEFINITELY not something to eat more than one of. It was really fun to see all my chem buddies outside of the Cragg centre. It was also reassuring to find out most of the third years are as swamped and over deadlines as I am. Of course, I've been losing extra time by honestly not being able to get out of bed.
I got to karate a few minutes late because I stopped on my way out of the potluck to answer a few questions about karate. STill got there in time to get my new shiny orange belt though. Fortunately, it's not the FLIGHTSUIT orange I've seen on some other clubs. Chines food was fun, even though I didn't have much of an appetite. Of course, the whole time I was shivering and half dead. It was fun trying to put a smile on for pictures. Lots of pictures where I'm leaning against Ryan. :p

Jan. 27th, 2006 07:34 pmThere IS a god of chemistry. And something someone in my year did earned his wrath, because we are getting smote by him HARDCORE. Let's review.
1. Excessive amounts of Langler.
2. Quantum with math-happy Stacy
3. Honours requires six fourth year classes. With Steve on sabbatical and Langler teaching three lower level courses, that leaves five profs who can teach fourth year classes. Except...
4. Stacy resigned, effective July 1, so we actually only have FOUR profs available to teach fourth year classes. And...
5. This is only speculation on my part, but with Stacy gone, that means Ghandi will probably end up teaching Thermo, Quantum and Kinetics. Meaning he can't teach a fourth year class. That brings us down to THREE courses guaranteed for next year. Duffy is trying to bring in people to teach a course or two, but I'm not sure how many people he can scrape together.
6. Kinetics with Ghandi is BRUTAL. Despite skipping lunch to put in two hours trying to crunch numbers and then spending another two hours after the lab, the numbers remain uncrunched. We tried asking for help again, but he doesn't seem to grasp WHAT it is that's giving us trouble.
So yeah, there's a god of chemistry. And he HATES us.
Oh, exam schedule is out! Pretty decent spread, yay!
April 8- Intro Soc
April 11- Analytical
April 17- DOOM! (Organic) I'm glad to actually have time to hand problems in this time, though I wish I could get it over with a bit sooner. On the plus side, I have like an entire week to devote exclusively to this.
April 20- Quite possibly also doom (Kinetics)
Organometalics is a take home. Which I should really start soon, because it's supposed to be hard.
