London Transit Commission, you disappoint. The one consolation about the undergrads being back is supposed to be that the buses run more frequently. So out I walk this morning excited that there would be a 10B for me to catch.
Well, I knew the A's and B's were running, because I saw something like five going in the other direction. Usually, because of where my stop is located, when I see a bus going the other way, there will be one coming around the corner in my direction in about a minute. Yeah... not so much. About twenty five minutes later, the 10B finally showed up. Right about when the regular ten was supposed to show up.
Way to destroy the sole consolation.
And since I seem to be whining this post, I'd also like to complain about the fact that there is a mandatory meeting for all TAs at which we will discuss such thrilling topics as the role of a TA, what makes a good TA and academic integrity. Yeah... doesn't this kinda sound like the kinda stuff that they talk to the newbies about? I'm somewhat confused why exactly the people who have been TAing for years need to go to this meeting. Yeah, yeah, we know we're not allowed to beat the kids no matter how much we might want to.

Date: 2009-09-12 01:10 pm (UTC)The thing that really got me was that I was at an "Honor Code" school. (the reasons the Honor Code does not work would get me on my soap box for far too long). Anyway, I caught students cheating (because they made the same insane errors and I was like - wait a minute - and found that their work was exact copies. I went through their homeworks from previous classes that I hadn't finished grading yet. Identical, down to every last mistake. So, since a TA cannot on her own fail someone or start an Honor Court preceding, I brought it to The Powers That Be...who told the kids not to do it again. Oh, yeah, we really showed those little twerps. *hates the TA system*
