Well... time for doom...

At least it'll all be over at five. God, I hope this goes well.
yubsie: (Default)
Hmm, so according to that My LJ thingy...

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] missrose54!

Two hours to doom.

(And still no Goblins :p)
yubsie: (Default)
Had a fun time at home for Easter. Though my family made fun of my sleeping habits. :p I'm not sure why I slept so late... guess I'm still feeling some effects of being sick. :p

I read The Li'l Endless Storybook to my sister with voices. Yes, she's 18. I read it anyway, because I like reading out loud. :p It was amusing though: Every time I read Delirium referring to Barnabas as "Puppy", Topaz looked up because she thought I was talking about her. :p

Speaking of Topaz, she was WONDEFULLY behaved the entire time I was home. And you know... she's actually pretty cute. :p

Most of my time home was spent either studying or at church. Didn't make it home in time for Holy Thursday mass, but I wasn't expecting to. I'm not sure I've EVER made it to that mass, when I think about it. I did make it to Good Friday in good health so I didn't feel wobbly at any point during the Passion. One of the poor candidates took ill during the dismissal. They had to take her to the hospital, and then her entire family caught it. Now she's getting baptized NEXT week.

The Easter Vigil was pretty spiffy, even though it rained, thus less standing by the bonfire. Father Jeff has a flair for the long and dramatic, so we had EVERY reading. The Easter Vigil readings are basically the Old Testament in a nutshell, so this amounted to about an hour of reading in the dark. Fortunately, they simulated dawn by bringing the lights up GRADUALLY. Silly Father Jeff decided to call everyone to the font for the baptism... even though we probably could have seen better from our seats. ANd then he forgot to tell us to bring our candles with us.

One of my favorite things about the Easter season is the super cool Gloria. It's got a really neat rhythm to it. And then it drops down on "LOrd God, lamb of God"... which SOUNDS really cool, AND goes back down into my range when it was starting to push it.

Alas, my singing voice was not entirely back. I got through the Good Friday music, because it's mostly low, but the cough kept catching up to me on the high notes at the vigil.

Other than that, I basically just studied ORganic, because the final DOOM is tomorrow. The most frustrating thing is that the LAST lecture ended by leaving off a synthesis unfinished. So I'll be studying along and hit the material about enandiandric acids, and it'll just STOP. It's so ANNOYING, I just keep sitting there going "But how did they FINISH it?"

Okay, so I'm a chem geek. :p

EDIT: Oh, and guess what? That's right... Goblins hasn't updated!

[livejournal.com profile] non_horation: I think maybe I will run for PM
[livejournal.com profile] non_horation: and I could run the Funny Hat party :p
[livejournal.com profile] non_horation: and wear funny hats everywhere

Hey, I'd vote for this party. :p Sounds like the best option these days. :p

Organic lab is progressing. I think I'll finish the discussion and do the intro in the morning. (Basically, find a paper or two about the stuff I characterized so I can say what it is. My money is on unpleasant. :p)
yubsie: (Default)
Kinetics lab actually getting near done. Figured out structure for Organic lab. Goblins finally updated. (Incidently... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!)

The universe is due tomorrow, but this may yet be a good day.

Now my immediate future as a series of dates!

Last day of classes: OMG TOMORROW
First exam: April 8 (aka OMG SATURDAY... but it's Soc. I'm studying for it the night before and that is IT. I have my Organometallics take home, and that is MORE IMPORTANT.)
Last exam: April 20 (because someone in student services hates me :p)
Birthday: April 23
Little brother's confirmation: May 4 (Which I wasn't expecting to be able to go to, but...)
First day of work: May 8

QotD!

[livejournal.com profile] non_horation: I was like, so your email would be like, yhnsn?
[livejournal.com profile] non_horation: and then I realised your real name isn't Yubs

REALLY Tessie. :p

This grading was a lot more fun than the last one. SHORTER for one thing. Amusingly, we DIDN'T do half the techniques we had to do for the last one. :p The clinic was more fun, too. Not a solid hour of kicking. One of the instructors made Ryan stop coming at me so fast. I think she thought I was younger than I am, since I had my hair in French braids. Later we were sparring and I was paired with this cute little green belt. I kept getting so distracted by trying to get down to her level that I was screwing everything else up. ANd she would point this out. :p

La Vie Sloshed STu has now been unveiled. We killed Nicky loudly with our song. :D

Still no Goblins update. :p

Plan for this evening is work on Organic and Organometallic labs. Blah.
yubsie: (Default)
Been a couple days since I updated this. Mostly because I've been chained to that bloody Soc paper. You know you're a geek when you procrastinate on a paper because it's about sports and sports are boring. :p I wound up turning the factor that totally skewed my data into the entire basis of my paper, go me. I expected hockey to get a LOT more coverage than curling. It did get more, but the difference wasn't as dramatic as I expected. See, when I set out to do this project, I kinda forgot that Russ Howard is from Moncton. (I am SO getting disowned for that, incidently :p) Russ Howard, for those of you (read: most of you :p) is on the men's curling team. The paper I was using was from Moncton. There was actually a lot of curling coverage, but a lot of it was really just Russ Howard coverage. :p

I finished writing the paper around 3:30 last night, so I decided I would cite it in the morning. I think I got most of the in text citations. Trouble is, I looked at every hockey or curling article for the entire run of the Olympics. That's a LOT of articles. I decided once my works cited page hit 2 pages and I was really running short on time, I was going to print and hope she doesn't notice that I was missing a few articles. SO MANY ARTICLES. :p

Anyway, printing turned out to be a NIGHTMARE. I got a paper jam, which is tricky to fix on my computer. SO I decided it would be faster to send the paper to VIcki and print the rest on HER printer. Of course, I initially gave it to her in Wordperfect format because I'm silly like that. THen we tried to print just the pages I didn't have yet. This screwed up my page numbers, so we just printed off the whole thing. It is now 1:02. The paper is due at the beginning of class. Which starts at 1:00. :p

So I power walked to campus and got there with five minutes left in the grace period. :p

Got everything finished in the Organic lab and checked out. I also found out that I got a B+ on my lab report, so that's exciting. I lost marks on silly things I can fix in this one. :p

Now I'm sitting in the Cragg crunching numbers for Analytical. Doesn't everyone just LOVE the end of semester? :p

Oh, and a meme from [livejournal.com profile] pirate_lass

Comment and I'll tell you why I love you!

Simple, eh? :p
yubsie: (Default)
Finished reading V is for Vendetta. It was... WOW. Just WOW. I really hope the Vogue gets the movie soon, even though I know I'll have to watch it through the "Don't expect it to be like the source, appreciate it for what it IS" glasses.

Want icons! :p

I was clearly trying to set myself up for nightmares last night. After I finishing V is for Vendetta, I went to read the glorified Sandman fanfiction book. A story set at the Cereal Convention. Somehow, I still slept peacefully. :p

The power went out during Organic yesterday. ONly for two seconds or so, but it led to a discussion of whether Langler would have kept teaching if it had STAYED off. The consensus was that he definitely would. There's a window, so light isn't an issue. He never uses a projector, much less a computer, he writes it all on the board. He would SO keep teaching. :p

Today I get to go to the Organic lab, put on a TLC and then run down to the Organometallics lab to run a melting point. Yay multi-tasking at the end of the semester. Then I have to put together my Analytical presentation and start my stupid soc project.
yubsie: (Default)
Well, another Cragg centre post. I didn't get my Analytical paper done until around 2:30 last night, but that was my own procrastinatey fault. I showered then to get a little extra sleep this morning. THat's university students for you. Do anything the night before for five minutes extra sleep in the morning. :p

I got 69.5% on my Organic midterm. That's, what, a C+? Not as good as I'd like, but a lot better than I expected to do. I actually did get the spectroscopy problem, though I lost two easy points for forgetting to comment on the UV data. Oops. :p He said my artwork was terrible though. :( Got most of the mechanism points, though once again I got art complaints. :p I somehow got 8/15 on the theory question despite not actually finishing answering it. Not that I'm complaining. :p Didn't do as well on the synthesis as I'd hoped, but c'est la vie. Only his final left! I'm currently sitting at an A- in the course, though I ought to see how I did on that lab report... though the labs are only worth 8%, I should see it for the sake of the SECOND lab report. :p

I got to the Organometallics lab first again. You'd think they'd start trying to prevent this. I thought about making everyone listen to the Dream and Desire soundtrack, but I was nice and put on the Carrot/Angua one instead. Though I'm not sure how nice that is, considering that CD also has the Sailor Star Crack EP at the end. :p

So now I'm working on my Analytical lab. Really, I am. I swear! Don't let the icon fool you! :p
yubsie: (Default)
Doom was doomish. I expected it to be, but that doesn't really make it any better. On some level, I knew he'd be out for his revenge after the last one went well. STill...

The synthesis I think I might have gotten right (20 marks). That depends on if I correctly remembered how to do a few of the reactions though. The spectroscopy problem (worth 40 marks) was pretty bad. I eventually came up with an answer, but I'm not sure if it was right or not. I'm pretty sure I got the mechanism (25 marks), at any rate. That's an interesting change of pace from Organic III. I'm pretty sure I blew the theory question (15 marks) though. Well, I know I blew it, because I didn't actually finish with everything he asked for. He broke his pattern! Usually you can safely not study the past week and a half of material, so I only skimmed that stuff. And then he asked about it. Oops. I knew the bonus question (5 marks), so maybe that'll help a little big. Just have to remind myself that D is for "Don't ever have to take a class with this man ever again!"... wow, D really IS for lots of things. :p

The general consensus is that we're all really happy that that was the last Langler Midterm we ever have to write. Even if there's still the final, and the Organic IV final is notoriously brutal. We really had far too many classes with him to be anything except bitter. Needless to say, he's not getting an Honours student out of OUR year. Maybe next year, but not our class. :p We don't want to have to work with him!

So now I'm sitting in the Cragg making my presentation for Kinetics. Which I will totally be stumbling through. Hopefully I can rein in my speaking speed to actually get in the full twenty minutes. I wouldn't count on it thought.... I'm worried it's going to end up more "And, well, I'm out of content but not time. Here's a picture of my cat." :p
yubsie: (Default)
Heh, I now have a hundred and TWO icons to fill up. I've uploaded 34. Clearly I need to icon more. :p

I have doom tomorrow. It's not going to be pretty. The nice thing is, I don't have my 8:30, so I can study in the morning. And actually get some reasonable sleep.

After doom, I get to sit in the Cragg and put together my Kinetics presentation. Which is going to be unpleasant. I also have to study for Analytical, because that's at 8:30 on Friday.

On the plus side, I get to see Into the Woods on Friday night. :D

I'm going to crash this weekend, and crash HARD, I think.
yubsie: (Default)
I got an A+ on my Organic midterm.

I got an A+ on my Organic midterm.

I got an A+ on my Organic midterm.

I got an A+ on my Organic midterm.

I got an A+ on my Organic midterm.

I GOT AN A+ ON MY ORGANIC MIDTERM!

Assuming I am not still in Analytical because I fell asleep in class and this is all a dream, that is. :p

I GOT AN A+ ON MY ORGANIC MIDTERM!

Instead of 50-some%, I managed 94%.

Needless to say, there is some serious Ewok dance going on here. :p

DAMMIT KIM! Hana Yori Dongo is EVIL ADDICTIVE! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

Doom actually went okay, maybe. I didn't feel like crying coming out, but after talking to other people, I'm not sure if it actually went as well as I thought...
yubsie: (Default)
Well, since [livejournal.com profile] blancwene and [livejournal.com profile] thepodsquad did it too... Icon truth meme. Go post. :p

Doom is looming! And it shall be doom INDEED. Doom doom doomy doom.

(Also, I've claimed Death and Neville over at [livejournal.com profile] 1character. I blame [livejournal.com profile] djcati. She WOULD find a fanfiction challenge I actually have time for. Evil.)
yubsie: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] thecleric007 just tried to date a cheque as 19___

Brilliant of her, eh? :p

Organic sucks. -_-
yubsie: (Default)
So, turns out that the reason classes were cancelled yesterday was that it wasn't possible to get into some of the buildings. The paths were all cleared early on, but the doors were still blocked. :p

Velcro is a pain to sew on. The thread keeps snagging. :p

And, according to that My LJ thingy...

Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] stolenkisses_!

Two days to DOOM. :(
yubsie: (Default)
Blah, I just couldn't get into a work mode today. I tried to do some synthesis problems but I just couldn't get my brain around them. So I tried some mechanisms, with even less success. Though those were problems I'd tried before and not gotten so...

Yeah. Langler will nag me, but I handed in problems two out of three days since our last meeting! And the last batch I got back had CHECKMARKS on them! There are no words for how unbelievably ecstatic that made me. :p

Which is, really, kinda sad. :p
yubsie: (Default)
There's been some confusion
Over Kinetics out Mout A
But of course instructions are hazy
But of course there's a follow up question
Every time that we try to respond
Yes
There's been some confusion
For you see the professor is
Unusually confusing and all together quite impossible to understand
Kash

What is this feeling
That starts to grab
Every time I try to do this lab
My will is breaking
My brain is aching
My head is reeling
What is this feeling?
Fervent as a flame
Does it have a name?

Yes

Loathing
Unadulterated loathing
For these stats, these rates
This analysis
It's so pure so strong
Though I do admit it came on fast
Still I do believe that it can last
And I will be loathing Kinetics for forever
Loathing truly deeping loathing this
My whole life long!

(An LJ post from the Avard Dixon lab as we were banished from the Cragg Centre for an Intro Chem test)
yubsie: (Default)
There IS a god of chemistry. And something someone in my year did earned his wrath, because we are getting smote by him HARDCORE. Let's review.

1. Excessive amounts of Langler.
2. Quantum with math-happy Stacy
3. Honours requires six fourth year classes. With Steve on sabbatical and Langler teaching three lower level courses, that leaves five profs who can teach fourth year classes. Except...
4. Stacy resigned, effective July 1, so we actually only have FOUR profs available to teach fourth year classes. And...
5. This is only speculation on my part, but with Stacy gone, that means Ghandi will probably end up teaching Thermo, Quantum and Kinetics. Meaning he can't teach a fourth year class. That brings us down to THREE courses guaranteed for next year. Duffy is trying to bring in people to teach a course or two, but I'm not sure how many people he can scrape together.
6. Kinetics with Ghandi is BRUTAL. Despite skipping lunch to put in two hours trying to crunch numbers and then spending another two hours after the lab, the numbers remain uncrunched. We tried asking for help again, but he doesn't seem to grasp WHAT it is that's giving us trouble.

So yeah, there's a god of chemistry. And he HATES us.

Oh, exam schedule is out! Pretty decent spread, yay!

April 8- Intro Soc
April 11- Analytical
April 17- DOOM! (Organic) I'm glad to actually have time to hand problems in this time, though I wish I could get it over with a bit sooner. On the plus side, I have like an entire week to devote exclusively to this.
April 20- Quite possibly also doom (Kinetics)

Organometalics is a take home. Which I should really start soon, because it's supposed to be hard.
yubsie: (Default)
I won't lie. This is mostly a GIP. I've had a spot reserved for this icon ever since I got the paid account, and I finally got around to making it. :p

Just to have some actual content...

Someone, SOMEWHERE hates my year of chem students. I mean, the Langler thing was bad enough, but we're in such a MESS for next year. With Steve on sabbatical and Langler not teaching a fourth year course, that left five profs giving fourth year courses. Honours requires SIX fourth year courses.

It gets better though. Stacy recently handed in her resignation... effective July 1. Leaving FOUR profs giving fourth year courses. Duffy isn't sure if she'll be replaced immediately. He's scrambling to get term positions so they can scrape together enough fourth year courses. He claims they're trying for at least seven courses, but we aren't exactly holding our breath here.

PS, Tess, kindly stop shipping the OFP. Look at that icon! They're cute! For their own good, stop shipping them! Such a cute ship deserves to LIVE!
