May. 21st, 2005 06:57 pmJust got back from RotS. Wow... this totally redeems the PT.
I was literally bouncing when I heard the line "Lock S-foils in attack position." I wanted to know who was flying that ship. Even though it was a clone, I wanted to hear his story. In short, the magic was back.
The interactions between Anakin and Obi-Wan before everything goes to hell... WOW. I loved their dynamic, their banter. For the first time since the Prequels started, I actually CARED about these people.
I really enjoyed seeing Bail Organa in a big role.
When ANakin beheaded Dooku, I gasped.
The Jedi purge scene... watching them all be slaughtered one by one. I couldn't believe I was watching it.
I LOVED Padme's line about "So this is how democracy dies. To thunderous applause."
Chewie giving Yoda a piggyback was cute among all the carnage. He was definitely the only OT character they could have brought into this movie without it being STUPID.
Obi-Wan calling Anakin his brother... *whimper* And then the little moment where he picks up the lightsaber.
Yoda's duel with Palpatine was really snazzy. And then him realizing he has failed...
I'm glad Padme got to name the twins. Though I'm not sure how Leia can remember her real mother. :p
Padme's funeral was SO SAD. I really liked the scene where Bail, Yoda and Obi-Wan are all discussing what to do with the twins, and Bail says he'll take Leia because he and his wife wanted a baby girl.
It was cool seeing Anakin in the suit. Though his "NOooooooooooooooooooooooo!" was definitely the low point of the movie.
I absolutely adored the ending. The droids getting handed over to Captain Antilles (with the all important order to wipe Threepio's memory :p). Bail and Mrs. Bail sitting on Alderaan, holding Leia while her theme plays. And then it switches to Tatooine, with Beru carrying Luke up to the ridge where he'll stare at the sunset in 18 years, with the same music playing and standing by Owen to gaze out at the same sunset. Really powerful ending.
Didn't like the Death Star being started though. :p
Sometimes the dialogue was cheesy, but this prequel, I actually enjoyed. Even... loved.

Either she remembered vague feelings from Padme or thought Mrs. Organa was her real mom? That's been driving me nuts.
I need to see this movie again.

Date: 2005-05-22 01:41 am (UTC)I love that Artoo's memory was not erased =P And the ending. Though the "NOOOOOOOO" thing was rather...odd...but then again, what would YOU do if you found out you caused the death of the person you loved most in the world?
The funeral was really sad though...that's where I actually did cry.
And I gasped too, when Dooku got beheaded. That was...@__@ Like so much of the movie.
They really did a good job. You see now why I think that this will change your perception of events in the OT, especially things like Vader and Obi-Wan's duel in ANH?

Date: 2005-05-22 03:40 pm (UTC)Artoo is teh col.
It's not that he SAID "NOOOOOOOO!" that bothers me. It's just the way it SOUNDED that made me giggle.
Funeral. ;_;
@_@ sums it up pretty well.
Yeah, it would change perceptions of that duel. I still wouldn't start anyone off with the two really weak installments though.

Date: 2005-05-22 04:41 pm (UTC)Yeah, I can see that...though I don't think that TPM and AotC are THAT bad, really...they aren't good, but they aren't horrible either.

Date: 2005-05-22 06:17 pm (UTC)I think since we were already fans, we're more willing to forgive things in the other two. SOmeone just coming in would be all "And WHY is this massively popular?"

Date: 2005-05-22 09:02 am (UTC)This still brings up the question: Even though 3PO's memory was wiped, why doesn't Anakin recognize 3PO? :-p Or, in ESB, when Vader stops Boba Fett from shooting at Chewie, is he doing it to save 3PO? ;)
And I LOVE Bail. I honesly do. I wish Mon Mothma's part had not been cut. :(

Date: 2005-05-22 03:42 pm (UTC)Maybe the lava damaged Anakin's memory? :p
Bail was AMAZING. Mon Mothma would have been cool. I'm so glad Bail got a big part though. Alderaan makes me really sad now.

Date: 2005-05-23 12:05 am (UTC)Tell me darling. Where did you get your Fire Emblem games? As I spammed Vicki's journal about, he wants to play more of them, not just those commercially released in English.

Date: 2005-05-23 03:32 am (UTC)I'm thinking the funeral at the end was staged in it's entirety, not just the she-died-while-preggers bit, and Padme got shipped off somewhere as well. (If you like that, I rec this fic (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1823369/1/).)
I had to bite my lip to keep from audibly calling Palpatine bad names when he told Vader that HE'D killed Padme. I didn't like the NOoooooooo! either - if anything, it should have been a wordless howl - but I can kind of see that as the last breaking point, the point where he shuts off all emotion but hatred.
The sunset on Tatooine, tough...*kisses fingers* Nice! I wanna go see it again.

Date: 2005-05-23 05:45 pm (UTC)Palpatine is a BAD BAD MAN!
It's not the screaming of "Noooooooooooooooooo!" that bothered me, it was just that it sounded funny. :p
The sunset was SO MUCH LOVE!

Date: 2005-05-23 05:54 pm (UTC)The snapping of the cuffs was a bit "...yeah..." too, I thought. I also thought Palpatine was OOC when they found Anakin on Mustafar, a bit too concerned. I can see his being concerned for his weapon - which IMO is all he wanted Anakin for - but he sounded concerned for Anakin-the-person, not Vader-the-weapon.
The sunset...Oooooh. *luvs the sunset* It almost made up for the crappy 'romantic' dialogue. Almost.

Sunset *melts*

Date: 2005-05-30 10:47 am (UTC)Is it bad that when Vader was being all concerned, all I could think was "OMG, Shin Earl Jones!"? :p
But if people noticed evil glares, where would we be? :p
It IS adorable! ^_^

Date: 2005-05-30 03:31 pm (UTC)The 'Nooooooo': Thing is, it's not just anger, it's disbelief, and shock and recognition of the horrific irony that the actions he took out of a desire to preserve Padme's life (at least initially) actually were the cause of her death. It raelly is the moment when the last few shreds of Anakin a swept away, and then there is only Vader.
3PO: One protocol droid looks pretty much like any other. Threepio's only distinguishing characteristic is a mismatched silver leg plate, and the only time Vader encountered post-wipe Threepio in ESB, his legs were missing. Also Vader's pretty much suppressed every aspect of his former personality right up to the closing scenes of ESB.
Leia's mother: It could be a flase memory, it could be a Force thing. It could just be that she was remembering an old nanny or relative who the Organa's claimed was her mother when they told her she was adopted. Actually I have no idea on this one, but I had to try.

Date: 2005-05-30 08:06 pm (UTC)As for Leia, the problem with it being a false memory is that it's sloppy storytelling in that case. If they were going to have something about Leia remembering her REAL mother, it should actually be a memory of her real mother or there's no point to that bit of dialogue.
