I'm back! Cuba was nice. The beach was absolutely gorgeous (I'll post pictures when we get back to London and have my laptop with it's card reader). The weather was... actually a little warmer than I would have liked, but it didn't rain once.

I did discover I am completely incapable of tanning. My shoulders burnt a bit the first day, but other than that I stayed my usual completely pasty colour. I mean, yeah, we were slathering on the sunscreen, but everyone else definitely still tanned. Not that I mind... though it was kinda annoying when people would insist we obviously weren't catching much sun because I was still so pale.

We took salsa and merengue lessons! That was probably my favourite thing about the trip. Though salsa would be more fun NOT outside in the heat, I suspect. I actually almost passed out during the merengue. I'm not sure if that was the heat or just the fact that the food made us both sick that day.

The food... well, there's really no other word for it except atrocious. Since it did make us sick and all. And for lunch the only thing open was the snack bar which had... limited selection. Especially since I wasn't going to trust anything with mayonaise in it in that heat. There was an Italian place that was open on Friday that was really good though. Everyone agreed that it was the best meal all week. Unfortunately, that did include the meal served at the wedding reception (though the cake was good!).

So yeah, I'm looking forward to going home and cooking. And not eating fries. :p

We did a lot of swimming and I demonstrated I'm really bad at volleyball. Unfortunately, we couldn't really afford to go on any of the excursions (and, for that matter, every one that sounded interesting also had an aspect that I had no desire to do), so by the end we were... actually kinda bored. Usually my vacations involve a lot of museums and such, this was the first one I'd been on where it was JUST relaxing. Turns out that I like that for a couple days but then I want to get out and do stuff some more.

Still, it was mostly fun.

Cuba seems to be kind of spotty for food stuff. I'm not a fan of lazy vacations either- always have to do something [...is it wierd I see con staffing as a vacation of sorts? If not a relaxing one]

I am totally cool with lazy holidays provided they are in a tropical location.

Lazy holiday in Washington DC? Shit

Aye, indeed, but you're a human! You can afford lightweight long-sleeved clothing! :P

Yeah, we had the same reaction to Mexico. It was nice and relaxing and stuff but eventually a bit dull. Luckily we did go on a few excursions (hurrah for parents with money) which broke things up a bit.

Also Mexico resort had awesome food (though the best food hilariously was what I ate the night I got sick...but I don't blame the French restaurant because it was so damn good).

Yeah, that does sound...not so cool. I guess Cuba doesn't have awesome Mayan ruins.

Cuban food SUCKS because the government basically controls all the food so everything tastes the same and is blegh. Apparently the only way to get good food in Cuba is eat in residents' homes because they tend to set up little cookouts to feed people, except it's illegal without a permit. But who cares. Food.

Really I think the only reason to go are the cigars, the mojitos, and the beaches.
