No kitty for us after all. It's a perfectly understandable reason (she decided that the grief she was getting from her dad about his allergies was better than how she'd feel if she took the cat away from her daughter) So we're going to try the shelter again this weekend. This getting a cat process would be so much easier if I could in good conscience go through a pet store. :p

It's so weird to not be panicking. Animaritime is happening THIS WEEKEND. But other than the fanfic contest (which I just submitted my scores for... PAIN), there's nothing I can do. Since they turned down my offer to run panels via webcam. :p

I just started taking a quarter course, and until it's over, coursework is going to EAT ME. There's a lot of reading for it. It's really INTERESTING reading (right now we're reading a book that is considered among the most influential works of the 20th century), but there's a lot of it, so in between that, my other class (midterm Monday, lucky me), marking and that RESEARCH thing, I'm a busy little Ewok. :p

Also, I am 0 for 4 on rolling up the rim. :p

Boo on no cat :( I hope you find a Cat Giver who takes pity on your situation.
Hope you can make it to next year's Con.

Well, I personally have no problem buying kittens from a local hobby breeder. I like being able to meet the cat's parents and get a sense of how they'll look and behave as adults. The ones that breed for show sometimes sell retired show cats, too, if you wanted an adult.

You could also look for private adoptions/sales of kittens and cats in the want ads. Sometimes people have to give their pet up (moving or whatever) and they'd rather place the animal themselves as opposed to giving it to the shelter. Some may also sale mixed breed kittens cheaply (the exchange of money more to show that the buyer is serious about owning an animal and not just picking up free kittens nefariously).

Too bad about the kitty. Why can't you in good conscience go to a pet store? I don't know about these things.

Also, I haven't kept track of total purchases because I drink far too much hot chocolate, but I've won two coffees and a donut so far. Everyone at work is tremendously jealous, as I'm the only one that's won anything at all. I think I'm leeching all their luck. :P Still hoping for the boat... so I can sell it

Okay, I see. I actually sort of thought it might be something like that, but I wasn't sure whether there was some other factor that I didn't know about regarding the ethics of pet shops in general, or something. :P

I gave today's coffee to Dave. I only drink decaf, and that very rarely now, so since I probably wasn't going to use it (the first is still sitting on my counter at home), he might as well have it.
