We applied to adopt a cat today. :D I really hope we get her, she's an utter sweetheart. She's a brown tabby and about a year old. Amusingly, she's smaller than some of the actual KITTENS they had at the shelter. She won me over pretty quickly when I walked by her cage and she started doing something that looked suspiciously like Legolas's "Rub my belleh!" pose. I looked at the other cats, but I kept coming back to her, because I was quite thoroughly won over. :p

So now we play the waiting game. :p

Like every shelter pet I've encountered, she raises the question of "Why would ANYONE abandon this animal?" Unlike my parents' cats and dog, I don't even have a twisted hypothesis for her.

It'll probably be about a week before we hear anything, since it takes a few days to process the applications and Monday is a fake holiday. :p

"Family Day". The provincial government invented it this year. Aka "Febuary is a stupid month, we need a long weekend day" :p

I've never heard of having to apply to get a shelter animal. o.o What do they check for? If you've ever been arrested for animal cruelty? Do they come scope out your house? Bummer you couldn't pay whatever fees and then take her home that day :(

There was a whole application about what pets you have in the past, whether you still have them, how they are with other animals, whether you have children, whether said children are experienced with animals, what kind of place you live in (house, apartment, etc), why you want to adopt that particular animal, how long you've been considering adopting the animal, etc. They just want to make sure that the home the animal would be going to is suitable for the animal's needs. I imagine the dog application is probably even longer. :p
