So apparently Robert Jordan died today. My immediate reaction to that may have been "He's not allowed to do that! He didn't FINISH THE D*MN SERIES!"

(What? After reading Book Ten in which nothing happens for like eight hundred pages, I kinda wanted to see it through to the end. :p)

I really loved Wheel of Time in high school. It was one of the first times I got involved with online fandom. Then new books came out in which things didn't happen, and my interest started to drift. STill, I kinda wanted to pick up the paperbacks when the series was actually finished so I could see how it all turned out.

(Though apparently there are enough notes and such that someone else is going to be able to ultimately put the last book together. So at least it won't end up being the giant sprawling never finished series of DOOM. Just the giant sprawling series of DOOM. :p)

Apparently he'd been quite sick for a while though, which is why there was a contingency plan for this situation.

Huh, I hadn't realized. Of course, I'm not that big a fan of Jordan, so its not info I'd seek out on my own.

Yeah, I fell out of Wheel of Time after nothing happened in book ten. I had vague plans to pick it up when it actually finished, because after getting through book ten, I felt I deserved an ending. :p

So I found out he'd been so sick when I was all "RJ died? What? He's not allowed to do that, he didn't finish the series!" and went looking for more info. :p

I was slogging through by about book six, and then I got to the "I've had sex once and my old nurse magically knows I am now knocked up!" (just to be clear, it isn't the sex once = pregnancy that bothers me, b/c that's possible, it's the magic knowing of insta-conception) bit and went "Oh, for..." and politely returned them to the coworker who lent them to me.

Wasn't that because of the psychic girl having a vision though? I seem to recall Nynaeve screaming something to the effect of "OMG she's so stupid! She's going to get knocked up from this! And feeling all this happening is REALLY CREEPY. Let's all get ABSOLUTELY PLASTERED so we don't have to feel it anymore!" :p

Oh, she had a vision. She just didn't happen to be anywhere near Princess-chicky at the time to IMPART this information. No, the Old Nursemaid miraculously knew.

Book ten and book eight seem to be popular quitting points. :p You can't make people wait like three years for NOTHING. :p
