So, I finished The Book yesterday, but was busy reading other people's posts and didn't make my own. But now...
Okay, let's get the death screaming out of the way...
Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed!
Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupin!
Tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonks!
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedwiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig! (That one's harder to scream :p)
Moooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooody!
Coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin!
Doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooobby!
Okay, now that that's out of my system, down to business, as random as always. :p
HOW awesome is it that Grindelwald was important? VERY awesome! Because Grindelwald is JUST THAT COOL! We came up with a plot that wound up being important! Go us! That plot was making me SO nostalgic for Grindelwald. I miss that game even now. :p
Cho got a cameo, how exciting was that? And Hannah!
I was SO upset when I thought that Hat had burned to death. What? I'm kinda attached to him!
LUna's dad is named Xenophilius. That amuses me. :p
As Mi pointed out, it's kinda morbidly funny that rocks really DID fall and someone really DID die. Except it was Fred. ONE of the Weasley twins, so traumatic!
OMG Molly is made of pure unadulterated AWESOME! "Not my daughter, bitch!" I cheered.
Poor Teddy! His grampa before he was born and then BOTH his parents. (I screamed so loud when they died that my brother assumed that Neville or Luna had just died. :p) Though he's a playmate for the Halfblood Prince! Meaning the Ravenclaw one, of course. Carrot and Angua's kid. :p
I was surprised that Colin's death hit me quite as hard as it did. It was a random in passing death, but I made another noise that my brother assumed to be Neville or LUna. I assure you, Neville or Luna would have warranted a MUCH more distressed cry. Including the words "DAMN YOU TESS!"
Speaking of Neville, he got to be SO awesome, that makes me SO happy!
Also, Neville and Luna are alive and not explicitly attached to anyone else. That's good enough for me. :p
I was SO excited about seeing the Ravenclaw common room. It's so cool, too. And their "password" is so utterly RAVENCLAW, I love it!
Also, getting to find out about the Grey Lady and the Bloody Baron was awesome, it excited me. I was amused that I actually kinda almost got close to the Grey Lady's past in a task way back when. :p
The one thing that bothered me a bit was Ron's taking off. I mean really, haven't we DONE this plot before?
She actually had me wondering if we were all wrong about Snape when he died still seemingly evil. I should give her mad props for that. And then of course he DID turn out to be good all along, proving that things WERE leading the way they seemed. :p
OMGWTF Snape/Lily is canon. :p
She also had me worried about Harry for a split second there. And considering I was a staunch "She wouldn't kill Harry, the tone is getting darker, but not THAT dark" person, that's saying something.
I don't get why people are hating on the epilogue so much. Well, other than the fact that those poor kids have badfic names. (And you just KNOW James's middle name is Sirius. Why didn't they just named him Detention Potter and get it over with? :p) Even with the deaths and such, Harry Potter is still ultimately a KIDS BOOK. Of COURSE it's going to have a happy ending! And the pairings in the epilogue were nothing unexpected. More to the point, no one had a mullet, and NO ONE WAS AN ASTRONAUT. :p
I do wish they'd included more about the supporting cast in the epilogue. But on the other hand, that does leave it open for interpretation. See: Neville and Luna are alive and not explicitly attached to anyone else, therefore I can think they got married and had oddly named children. :p Despite Tess shipping them, they lived! (Unlike poor Tonks and Lupin. Good job on that one, Tess. You were thorough. :p)
Finally, I REALLY want a book about what Neville, Luna and Ginny were doing at Hogwarts during this book! The glimpses we get of it sound SO COOL! It would make such an awesome story.
Overall, this was a great conclusion. No matter what the wank is already saying. :p

Date: 2007-07-22 04:34 pm (UTC)The Grindlewald stuff was fantastic- answers to all these questions we'd never thought to ask [just like Harry didn't!], that were so important to everything. Then JK kept us lured to the evilSnape stuff by keeping him out of the picture in any obvious way, and giving us everything we wanted to know in one final moment. Excellent manipulation of readers :)
I love that she killed Harry, but then didn't kill Harry, as now I can tell all the people who ask "Did he die?" "Yes..and No. Read the book!".
I feel bad about all the dead characters, but still, they fought bravely.
I take it that given their deaths were offscreen, Tonks and Lupin were the "two who didn't have to die but did", which makes me wonder if she did it for the sake of a future story/book.
I think she had Ron take off because he's Ron, and that way she could make us all think he's totally going to die, then have him come along and save the day later.
I find it amusing no one's shed tears for Scrimgeor. I also assume Umbridge is off rotting in some prison somewhere, or trying her darndest to fake being Imperiused.

Date: 2007-07-22 04:43 pm (UTC)I half suspect Fred might have been the unintended death because the epilogue was written years ago and none of the kids are named after him. :p
They all had good deaths. I'm just sad they died. :p There was no "Dude, he died like THAT?" death, which is good. *coughLUSAcough*
I'm particularly fond of the Grindelwald stuff because the main plot of Come Grindelwald was about artifacts of Grindelwald's. (Really, Grindelwald wasn't JUST about the nastiest, COOLEST Hufflepuffs ever :p)
It was so neat getting Dumbledore's backstory. I didn't expect to get that.
I figured they knew each other, I was just a bit surprised that Snape being in love with Lily turned out to be canon. :p The stuff with Petunia was really awesome, too. She got some really good development that once again, I wasn't expecting to see.

Date: 2007-07-22 05:42 pm (UTC)She really did have me worried about Snape being evil and Harry dying too and I was such a firm supporter of good Snape and alive Harry too. Really sneaking, this JKR lady :]
I still can't quite get over that Snape/Lily is canon. Crazy.

Date: 2007-07-22 07:03 pm (UTC)Ha! Hahahahaha! I stopped crying long enough to laugh at that. Somebody needs to make an icon of that. Or even just "No one had a mullet and NO ONE WAS AN ASTRONAUT."

Date: 2007-07-22 07:51 pm (UTC)As did I - Many times. HURRAH MOLLY!!!!
This death hit me the hardest. Even more than Fred, but I think that was the way Fred' death happened. If there had been other, closer family there, it would have been harder.
See, that's just it. She allowed her writing to "mature" as the kids did and so by this time, there should have been a deeper happy ending then Harry married Ginny, Ron married Hermione, Draco wasn't quite the twit they all thought him, & so on. The more I think about it, the more I'm really annoyed that there wasn't a memorial for all those who died in the line of fire, so to speak. I think that would have been a more appropriate way of saying, "We will move on, but we will never forget." I understand the epilogue as it was showed that not only were those who had fallen not forgotten, but the next generation was being taught that old prejudices were unnecessary in the new, Voldemorte free, world. I just don't like the way she did it.
I may be just the slightest bit obsessed with that epilogue now.

Date: 2007-07-22 11:04 pm (UTC)The epilogue could have used MORE of course, but what was there wasn't troubling. Unlike a certain kid who had never shown any interest in science suddenly being an astronaut. :p
