I apparently just keep forgetting to update this thing. So now I will talk about movies that I've seen in the past couple days. :p The first was Transformers. I wanted to see OotP, but Ryan pouted. :p It was surprisingly good though. :p



The thing that really sold me on this movie was that it was FUNNY. :p A bunch of giant robots who have just been told to hide? HILARIOUS. :p

Bumblebee's radio shenanigans were also a stroke of BRILLIANCE. :p

There was something about Optimus's delivery on "How did you know about me?" "E-bay." that was AMAZING.

I'm also happy that the guy with the baby didn't die. When his first line was about wanting to get to hold her for the first time, I was SURE he wasn't going to survive. Everyone knows that the guy with the most to go home to doesn't make it home. :p

My mother wound up taking me and my siblings to see OotP today, so all was well. :p



Okay, let's get this out of my system first...

Evanna Lynch is AMAZING. What a PERFECT bit of casting. She WAS Luna. Perfect, absolutely perfect.

Also, HOW much did the government steal that director's toad? The toad is totally in Area 51 right now. :p I was all asquee when they were running and holding hands. Eeee!

The downside is that now Tess ships them, so I fear for them in Deathly Hallows. :p

But EEE! SO CUTE! My mother was so confused when I was babbling to my sister about stolen toads. :p

And HOW much does Molly rocksay off? A whole lot, that's what!

Umbridge is deliciously nasty. And my poor sister almost passed out from the evil quill of doom AGAIN.

The twins' exit? Win. :p

LUNA!

HOW awesome was Bellatrix skipping and singing about killing Sirius?

And I loved both flying to London scenes. :p And flicking in and out of papers to advance the plot was effective.

Flitwick being quietly awesome. Conducting the rehearsal while being measured by nosy people. "Secretly" cheering the twins on. Oh Flitwick, you didn't get much screentime, but you made the most of it. :p

LUNA!!!

Okay, now that I'm done squeeing, I'll touch on the things I didn't like. :p

Starting with Peeves and Marietta being at Taco Bell. :p KInda diminished the everyone against Umbridge thing. Not to mention shafting poor Cho. She's SO much more sympathetic when she's taking flak for standing up for a friend. CHO DIDN'T DO IT D*MMIT! Also, why was she worried about her OWLs if she's a year ahead of Harry?

Why is Padma still in Gryffindor?

What's with diminishing Neville's role in things RIGHT when his role is starting to get REALLY BIG in the books?

In conclusion, Luna totally stole the show. Because she is AWESOME. :p

I think they did alright with Neville. There's only so much screen time and comparatively, he comes across as a moderately important character. I think he did more than Ginny (which makes me sad, because I love Ginny), and we're obviously not done with her yet.

Luna was brilliant, wasn't she?

And you know, I think the movie finally can finally put rest to the "Sirius is coming back from behind the veil!" theories and hopes, because JKR would never have allowed an Avada Kedavra otherwise.

I was sad that they did that to Cho too. She gets enough bs from the fandom.

I mostly was sad about not seeing his parents. That and cutting the bit about how he could have been the one the prophecy was about. Okay, I just have a soft spot for Neville. :p

Absolutely positively BRILLIANT Luna. She kinda stole the show for me. :p

As if the fact that she CRIED when she killed him wasn't enough hint that he wasn't going to get better. :p

My inner CHo was horribly distressed. She's not a bad person!

Actually, the fact that that part of the prophecy was cut from the movie makes me wonder how important it is, beyond expounding on the relationship between Harry and Voldemort. Neville is obviously going to figure into the next book (and undoubtedly do something brilliant), but maybe his role in the prophecy is limited to "What if"s.

Cho isn't a bad person. She's a sixteen year old who's been through a horrible trauma.

Though even the "What if's" are really cool...

I mean, her boyfriend was murdered and everyone was insisting it didn't happen! People need to cut her a little slack.

I don't know that they were insisting that it didn't happen, just that there could be no closure with so much confusion swirling around his death.

Voldemort needs to go away. He does not make people happy at all.

Unless you're Bellatrix, I suppose.

I babysat twins when I was in high school, and they used to pull that kind of stuff all the time. And it would explain the randomly changing ties. And the not getting kicked out of the common room, because, really, which one is Padma? :-p

I was generally really pleased with the characterizations in the movie. I actually liked Luna better in the movie than the book; she's less bonkers and more sweetly ethereal. The twins got more development in their leaving scene than in the entire four previous movies. And the evilness of Umbridge!

Why was Padma EVER in Gryffindor? I think it just made the director's/script writer's life easier?

Has Peeves ever actually shown up in the movies? *thinks* It might have been just too difficult to introduce him at this late date?

I also kind of ship Luna/Neville now >_> Love your icon!

Luna was absolutely brilliant, as was Umbridge. I'm almost sad that she isn't in the other books (that we know of, at least, though I don't see her appearing in 7).

Also, they kind of saved Cho by having veritiserum involved. I still wanted Marietta. And Peeves.

Like I said: Giant Robots trying to be stealthy = GOLD. And I also was glad about the guy with the baby. I was waffling in my head for most of the movie, going, "It's totally set up like he's gonna die, but maybe he'll end up being the triumphant hero and get to go home, but what if they kill him just because it would be so tragic, but they can't kill him, they need that character because he's one of the only survivors from the first attack..." Or waffles to that effect. :P

And wasn't the hammerspace AWESOME?


I definitely need to see OotP again, if only when it comes out on DVD, because I had to leave right when the twins were about to make their grand exit. ;_;

If you wouldn't mind, could you explain the government stealing the toad thing? I can gather enough to make some sense of your usage of it, but it would be nice if you could tell me where it came from and stuff. Please? ^_^'>

I'll willingly concede that, where book!plot and movie!plot differ, book!plot is superior. But in terms of plot compression, I think eliminating Marietta was a necessary evil. And it's not like Cho did it on purpose; they do find out later that she was under the influence of Veritaserum, which is pretty much the ultimate excuse. :P

And Padma is still in Gryffindor because Lavender doesn't exist and Parvati needs someone to posse with. Or something. Which is going to be problematic for Ron in the next movie, methinks.... :P

The Government Stole My Toad= the ship name for Neville/Luna. :p A lot of the HP pairings have these bizarre names. Most of them are stupid, but that one is just so CUTE!

I think it's mostly my inner Cho from playing her in Grindelwald being all sad. And me missing the awesomeness that was Grindelwald!Marietta :p

A lot of people didn't know about her right at first. (Or at least I got a lot of comments to the effect of "Is that the girl who's playing Luna in the movie? OMG she's adorable!") JC Ravenclaw was always intently watching for more Ravenclaws with pictures though, after several games of trying to hide Katie Leung's cellphone. :p

I might have to actually watch this movie, since everyone actually likes it. ^^; (Family went but I didn't.) I hated the book. Though the fact they removed the PMDing!Harry plot makes me sorta want to see it, all on its own... >>;
