Today was another fun adventure in trying to remember what LANGUAGE I'm supposed to be speaking. There were a lot of long awkward pauses in my self introduction because "Watashi no namae wa Margaret desu. Watashi wa kanada-jin desu. Watashi wa Mount Allison daigaku no gakusei desu." is definitely NOT the same thing as "Ich heisse Margaret. Ich studiere Chimie an Mount Allison. Ich komme aus Riverview." (Apologies to [livejournal.com profile] ravenclaw_devi as I am fairly sure I just hurt her poor language :p) I suppose it's good that I didn't blank to the point that I was trying to say "Je m'appelle Margaret. Je suis une étudiante a l'université Mount Allison. Je suis Canadienne." (I MAKE NO APOLOGIES FOR MY LAZINESS ABOUT LOOKING UP SPELLING! :p)

So yeah, my brain works somewhat oddly, that I'll try to say it in German before French. I think it's because I have to THINK about German, while French I can just SPEAK, so I only lapse into French if I'm drawing a TOTAL blank on the word. :p

Can you tell I'm killing time between Japanese and Spectroscopy? :p

(Icon vaguely appropriate but mostly used because it's new and I haven't made a post with it yet. :p)

I used to get my french and spanish mixed up when I was doing spoken stuff in Spanish class...... so manye languages inside your head makes it hurt sometimes :) I'm sure Prof.Oe understands what's going on inside your head though.

I have nothing to add here, other than an "omfg nine languages in one head no one can LIVE at that speed!" sort of... understandingness. Thing.

Yay language!

The worst part was that my German book decided to reorder the cases of the declensions to nominative, accusative, genitive, dative (whereas, classically the cases run nominative, genitive, dative, accusative) to make it "easier" to understand for English speakers. It was rough ...

That's kinda amusing, given that in colloquial German, the genitive is more and more falling out of use or being (incorrectly) replaced by the dative, e.g. people saying "wegen dem Ewok" instead of "wegen des Ewoks" (because of the Ewok). But one would think that a grammar book is still sticking to the correct forms!

Sometimes i just slip into the spotty japanese i know without realizng it, getting quite a few vacant stares from my co-workers.

My boss appreciates it though...since mainly i curse in japanese so only the massies (who probably wouldnt be able to hear over the beeping and humming of the kitchen) would understand. It came in handy that Quarter Pounder day.

HAHAHA Yubs. ;p

I'm in a French conversation class right now, but since I'm a lazy bum I haven't really been studying the "new vocab." And whenever we have to discuss an issue with a classmate I just talk with my friend Grace about other stuff. Mon prof ne sais pas que je ne reste rien à la matière!

Apologies to [info]ravenclaw_devi as I am fairly sure I just hurt her poor language :p

Actually, you didn't, except that it's spelled "Chemie." (If you want to get really technical, it's also spelled "heiße," but I'm letting that slide so that I won't have to explain how to do a 'ß' on your keyboard. :p )
