ACK ACK ACK
May. 28th, 2010 12:42 pmOh. My. God. Just finished with the computer related scare of my LIFE. I'm giving a talk at the conference I'm going to (have I mentioned this? And the fact that I am TERRIFIED?) this week. I was showing Yining my slides in one of the rooms and got ready to leave for lunch. Except... I forgot that my computer was hooked up to the projector. And tripped and dropped said computer on the floor.
I tried to turn it on and it couldn't detect a bootable device. I ran the onboard diagnostic and it was giving my a harddrive error.
Well, frak, right?
So cue a lot of me freaking out about what I was going to do, how I was going to bring the backup copy of my talk back to being consistent with the newer copy on my harddrive, how I was going to make the changes that still needed making. My train for Toronto leaves at 3:30, just for good measure, what do I do? Do I try to find a computer repair place in Toronto and hope it's a quick fix? Do I buy a cheap netbook with PowerPoint and use that? What the frak am I supposed to do?
Fortunately, I noticed that the harddrive had popped out a bit and pushed it back in, hoping that it would actually do the trick. And, THANK GOD, it did. So now I have Windows booted up and Powerpoint open and all is well. But EEK.
