So much animeness yesterday. I watched a random episode of Ranma with Ryan, which was amusing. Much as one would expect of a random episode of Ranma. Amusing, but I'm not dying for more or anything. :p

Nasty evil mean Bill played... disturbing THINGS at the beginning of the meeting. Evil mean nasty Bill! Then we actually watched anime and generally glared at Bill. :p

First up was Getbackers, which I'm still quite fond of. I'd already seen the episodes we were watching, so I wrote Death/Death while still half watching. Yay only half reading subtitles!

Then we watched Yami no Matsui. Ryan turned around and stubbornly read Sandman instead. :p Poor boy is really not a fan of shounen-ai. Even though we still TOTALLY caught him shipping Kei/Goh last time we watched Pretear! :p I enjoyed it, at any rate. :p It's very pretty. :p

After that, we were nice to Ryan and watched Love Hina. I half watched and wrote Death/Death. I still managed to follow everything that was going on. We made many jokes about the fact that Ryan's living arrangements for next year vaguely resemble a harem anime (except, of course, for the part where Ryan already HAS a girlfriend who ISN'T going to be living in that house... yes, I refer to myself in the generic third person! :p).

Finally, we watched... Gatchaman. It was so HILARIOUSLY awful. It had a team of superheroes in these HIDEOUS generic superhero costumes. There was a bird motif, which meant jagged capes and pointy helmets! :p The best part had to be that they were the SCIENCE NINJA TEAM though. How can you NOT love something that's terrible enough to have a SCIENCE NINJA TEAM? :p

Incidently, Goblins? Just switch the designated update date to Sunday and stop lying to us! :p

What I love about Gatchaman is how over the top it is. The animation is great, and the characters expressions are overly dramatic at ALL TIMES. Everybody broods!
And when something happens, it's the most tramautic thing of all time ....... until the next week's episode. Tatsunoko's idea was to make a more realistic, violent anime with it, but it's still quite cheesy. There's supposedly an overall story, but it takes like 150+ episodes to get to it though 0_0

And of course, they're main villan Berge Katse is just a messed up pile of wrongness. He-She's got issues.

Well 3 series. And some OVA's. Each series is it's own story I think. I should see more someday [I just have some Battle of the Planets DVD's, which have Gatchman as an extra].

There's also been 3 dubs of the first season- the 70's Battle of the Planets dub [which had earth posing as alien worlds- which all happen to look and act just like earth!- and added an R2D2 Ripoff, and his robot dog], and a dub made by Turner Broadcasting in the early 90's called G-Force [less editing, but with horribly cheap synth music. And ADV's new dub.

Then there's also Eagle Riders, a dub Bandai made of Gatchaman F, the 2nd series

Yeah, it's the most successful anime that most fans forget is anime :)

There's also a comic adaption of BOTP planned by Alex Ross [who did the new DVD art] http://alexrossart.com/ and a lot of parodies and references in other shows [Nurse Witch Komugi-Chan cosplays as them in her show, a recent disney TV show with kid superheroes had villans modeled after them, and Megas XLR has characters mocking them and the Power Rangers]

*L* SoundEffect has Battle of the Planets DVDs, that have the corresponding Gatchaman, and in some cases, G-Force episodes, as 'bonus features' on the disk. Going from one series to the other, to the other is VASTLY entertaining!
