*sigh* He's still Prime Minister. I was hoping it was a dream.

On the plus side, the Bloque Québecois is actually DOWN in numbers from the last election. And it's a minority government. Those tend not to last. I didn't want THIS election, but now that Scary Man is in power, the next one can't come soon enough. Everyone was so fixated on wanting a change that they didn't think about whether the Conservatives were going to provide the KIND of change the country needs. Here's a hint: They aren't.

In HAPPY news, [livejournal.com profile] miana_dude is, like, the coolest person in the world. She sent us a rather illegal video recording of Wicked with the original Broadway cast. It's SO MUCH AWESOME! The staging is absolutely BRILLIANT. Of course, now I'm REALLY dying to see the show live.

You know you're a theatre person when you pick out which dance breaks exist solely to allow others to make a quick costume change. :p

I guess to get a feel for what kind of compromises they'll do, we'll need to catch up on the non-seperation type things that the Bloc likes. Because I don't see Harper and Leyton becoming buddies. :P

Yeah, more power to the provinces. Also, lowering the national debt, because a soverign Quebec takes 25% of the national debt with them. :P And for some reason, the Bloc seems really big on foreign aid, but that won't agree so much with the Conservatives.

I'm trying to look up their platform, and they actually seem pretty Left. Heh. This is from CBC:

The main goal of the Bloc is obviously separation from Quebec, but they have other planks in the platform as well. For the most part, their policies encourage the transferring of control and money to the provinces.

The Bloc platform and campaign frequently mention government corruption, with special emphasis on the sponsorship scandal.

The Bloc leans left in many of its proposals, including implementing the Kyoto Protocol on greenhouse gas emissions, increasing foreign aid spending, asking for a consultation on the "purpose" of the army before any more major spending decisions are made. The party supports same-sex marriage.

The party would like to see more measures to counter what it describes as the "ill effects" of globalization.

They also call for protection of a supply management system in agriculture, and support for fishing and forestry.

Oh, and decriminalizing marijuana, apparently. And they support gay marriage. This will definitely be an uneasy government. :P

Also, apparently the Conservative party has "no stated platform" on human rights. That's sad and funny at the same time. :P
