The murder mystery last night was RIDICULOUSLY fun. :p It was an interesting assortment of guests at the dinner. We had Nico as a goddess from Saiyuki. Part of her schtick was that she could only speak through her aide, Cherie, because her voice would destroy all her minds. Those of you who know NIco know how HILARIOUS it is that she had to keep quiet the entire night. :p She kept having to relay smartalecky comments through someone else. :p [livejournal.com profile] silver_saber was a highly arrogant Dark, which was amusing. Alana was an original character who runs a theatre, with an on again off again French accent. :p Susan was Sakura from Tsubasa. She's only seen three episodes, so she was highly confused by her own character. Which, considering how Tsubasa is, actually worked quite nicely. :p Our murderer was Kyoya from Host Club, who did it for financial gain. :p We had in attendance Captain Jack Sparrow and his French alter ego Jacques, whose accent was as erratic as his beloved Madame Fleur. :p

I was River. It was RIDICULOUSLY fun! I mean, I got to yell at Jacques for fantasizing too loudly and play with rainbow Jello and call it being IC! Everyone was a bit creeped out that I managed to keep it up the entire time. Truth be told, I'm mildly disturbed at how easy the character was to fall into. But it was just SO MUCH FUN!

Last night was also Midnight Madness. I picked up a Christmas present for Vicki, yay. The FLying A (campus store) is closing, so their prices were lower than their usual Midnight Madness level, though the selection was rather sparse. Fortunately, I can wear kids' sizes, so I picked up a Mount Allison hoodie. I've wanted one for a while and the discount made the price actually almost close to reasonable. And it's all warm and fuzzy! Of course, the weather has been so absurdly WARM lately... :p

Whee, we just had our first trick or treaters. Well, the first this year. Last year, we were supposed to have a rehearsal on Halloween that got cancelled at the last minute. We tried to buy candy but there was NONE at the grocery store, so we wound up ignoring the door all night. :p

I mostly changed into practical clothes to TA today, but I left my costume boots on because they take ten minutes to put on or take off. BIG mistake. I love those boots, but they are the most ridiculously impractical thing I own. :p NEVER AGAIN. (Of course, I say that every time I wear those boots ANYWHERE and I always end up wearing them again. :p)

Oh, and CBC CLEARLY hates Doctor Who. First they wait forever to air it at ALL and then last night what did I get when I went to watch it? Some movie about a Newfoundland pilot during WWII. My Doctor Who was randomly pre-empted by a MADE FOR CBC MOVIE. It was supposed to be the episode that made the fandom asplode too!

Getting late, so just a quick post with my River costume pictures. I'll post up the other pictures from the party tomorrow. ALso, I want to get some outside shots when it's not raining, because there are some fun photo spots on campus.

River costumeness )

And for those of you who have been friended since the saga of making this dress... I should probably note that it is entirely hand sewn.

Greetings from other-home! I'm typing on my sister's laptop. Which isn't particularly fun because the keyboard is all squishy. Also, she only has IE and won't let me install Firefox. Which is really weird, since she has every intention of installing Firefox "When I get around to it". :p

Oh, at the dollar store the other day? I SAW PIMP LUKE'S HAT! There are a fair number of you who will appreciate that. :p

Gwenna and I finished up watching Firefly. She can't decide on a favorite character yet. She's blaming the fact that it usually takes her a bit longer into the series than Firefly actually ran to settle on a favorite. :p

I think I need to get my mother to watch the show. If only so she can understand the conversations between me, Gwenna and Daddy that mostly consist of ever building references. :p

Someone needs to explain to my brother that "NOOB!" is not a general purpose insult, incidently. :p

I finally replaced my USB drive. Price Club can never not sell in bulk, apparently, because all that they sell is 1 GB. Of course, it's about the same as other places were charging for half that, so... :p We also picked up lots of food, so hopefully someone will give me a ride back to Sackville. If not, I've been promised a food delivery when we go see Anne and Gilbert in PEI next week. :p

Oh, and all that's left on my River costume is hemming the overdress. I got the slits in the underdress all done up now. Hemming sucks though. :p

We were watching Serenity with Nuki on Thursday. Well, that was the plan, but one of her friends showed up. We'd already started the movie though, and I needed to watch it for fic purposes. Which led to the amusingness of...

Spoilers if there's actually anyone left who doesn't KNOW )

It's a good thing I watched the movie for more than just the fic, actually. I noticed that the underdress of the costume I'm making has a slitted skirt, so I have to alter that. Shouldn't be too hard, at least. It makes sense, really. River kicks ass and takes NAMES in that dress, obviously she needs to be able to move. :p

I've made a lot of progress on the overdress to the point that I can now tell that the skirt is hanging right. :D It's actually getting quite close to done. All I have left to do is alter the skirt of the underdress, attach the second... I'm not sure what to call it, but it's part of the skirt of the overdress and (ugh) hem the skirt of the overdress. Oy, I have hemming. :p Maybe I'll pick up fabric for Garnet when I'm home.

Last night we watched Moulin Rouge, because Ryan had somehow managed not to see that movie. I love that movie oh so very much. The music! The MUSIC! (Also, Christian/Satine= Tess ship :p)

Yesterday, we destroyed our lab. And no, I DON'T mean we blew it up. We had to tear everything down and put it back to being a teaching lab again. We now all have to use the boys' lab for the school year. I can't believe the summer went by so fast!

It's been a pretty fun weekend so far. We went to see Superman Returns, which was quite cool. Even if Metropolis is totally populated by the densest people in the world. :p

Yesterday I watched another episode of Doctor Who, which I love oh so very much. WHY is CBC not airing the new stuff until October? Then I watched the commentary for "Shindig" and "War Stories". OMG, audio commentary is so much love!

Vicki and I were going to watch the infamous Holiday Special, but the file refused to open. Maybe the computers were too scared of what it contained? So we watched Sailor Moon instead. Which led to the new icon. :p

I did some more work on my River costume. There's something incredibly amusing about looking at historical recreation websites for tips on making a costume from a SCIENCE FICTION movie. :p

EDIT: Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] nukichan? I'm going to be in Riverview next weekend. :p

Random thoughts...

Spaghetti straps are evil. To make and sew on, that is. I never want to do it again.

Backstitching makes SUCH a nice seam, why did I not learn about it sooner?

Declunking thesis is slow.

"The Vanilla Sex for No Good Reason Challenge" is totally the greatest name for a challenge EVER. I almost want to write something for it. Except for the part where I totally can't write smut. :p

Well, let's see... the graduation was long and hot. There were eight kids with 95%+ GPAs. When I graduated, no one had EVER gotten that high. Oddly though, there wasn't a whole lot of scholarship money for them. Though some of them were going to Queen's. :p There were some really obnoxious guys who kept screaming and I was ready to hurt. :p The speaker was someone from MY graduating class, which was really surprising.

All through the ceremony, there was this recurring theme of trying to encourage the kids to stay in Riverview, stay in New Brunswick. No one seemed willing to acknowledge that a fair number of these kids are intending to go into science, and there JUST ISN'T WORK for them here. I had a long "discussion" with my mother about this. She thinks that they want people to start up work for them. But you can't just START UP a chemical company, it takes billions! I'm not in a field where entrepeneuring is FEASIBLE. She got really annoyed when I added that I didn't want my kids to have to go through the NB education system. Even though the only selling point she could come up with was French Immersion, which is what people are constantly trying to destroy! Amusingly, my grandmother was siding with me and my sister on the whole idea that one size fits all education and social promotion are a BAD IDEA. :p

Yesterday Gwenna and I hit the mall. I picked up a pair of sandals, because the one I have right now doesn't fit properly and do horrible things to my poor toes. I picked up the new Arrogant Worms CD for my father, which is a highly amusing bit of music. It has Canadaman. :p I bought a really cool shirt, because it was funky and only ten dollars. I finally picked up Betrayal, which is much Allstony goodness. :D And I bought the fabric for my River costume, which is terribly exciting. The overdress is getting made out of drapery fabric, because it was the most affordable sheer fabric in the colour I need. We ran into Doug on the bus ride back, which was great fun. He and Sammy are coming over tomorrow, yay!

After supper, I went over to Shannon's and introduced her to Firefly. She is very much addicted now, to the point of us losing track of time. :p

My sister tried to wake me up with the puppy this morning, but Topaz is too well trained not to go into bedrooms. :p

[livejournal.com profile] nukichan is evil and made me pick up the phone. I'm going over to her house this afternoon, so yay.

So, I lose at remembering the dates of help sessions. THough this one was changed like three times, SO... :p

Instead of kinetics, I watched Kim Possible with Ryan, which was more fun.

I've also decided on my next costume. Garnet from FFIX. With the white mage cloak that she wears for all of five minutes, because cloaks are cool. MOre to the point, cloaks are WARM. Which will be good for Animaritime. :p

Wow it's late. I'm incoherent! :p

I tried to do my Kinetics quiz, but the presentation questions were on stuff that I didn't necessarily take notes on. The presentations are on WebCT, but they're POwerpoint. Which I don't have. Guess it'll be Cragg Centre funtime tomorrow. -_-

The convention is tomorrow.

The convention is TOMORROW.

How the hell did THAT happen?

On the plus side, the costume is almost done, I just need to stitch some trim on. I also need to clear enough space in my room for a camp cot for my sister. :p

Last night's little angst fit is over. Things always seem worse at two in the morning than they do in the daylight. Poor Tess getting stuck dealing with it. It must be SCARY. :p

Now I'm going to go run around in little circles because there's so much to do this weekend. :p
yubsie: (Default)
Spammers. All of you. I was only gone for three days, how did I get back 320 entries without catching up? Yes, I eventually gave up. :p

I had a fun time at home. The puppy behaved herself fairly well, for a change, though Legolas has taught her how to open the gate into the kitchen. I'm still not sure how HE figured it out, he's the STUPID cat!

My Sandman made the rounds again. BJ has proclaimed Desire "weird". Gwenna's partway through volume six, which means she's one shy of the SOUL EATING volume. Shannon flipped through a bunch of them admiring teh pretty. Because there is indeed much pretty. Oh, and Wes seems to quite like Sandman. :p He also thinks there should have been some Wes in The Swarm War, and tried to physically make it so. :p

I finally FINISHED The Swarm War. My ship is being frustrating... and Tess doesn't even SHIP them! They shouldn't be causing me this much trouble! :p

I saw The Corpse Bride, which was very fun. Death is fun, even! :p Maybe I'm slightly morbid, that I keep finding so many places to apply that. :p

My big discovery this weekend: Cutting fabric is a PAIN when you have cats. I was trying to lay out the fabric for my Fire Pretear cape, and both cats kept deciding it was a toy. :p

Oh, and I finally saw Princess Mononoke, which was very snazzy. :D

Yeah, my entries jump around a lot when I don't update for a few days, I know. :p

Another fun night of anime club. Because clearly after the Escaflowne marathon, we needed more animeness. :p

We watched Hana Yore Dongo (Something like that... live action, the English title of the manga is Boys Over Flowers) which was great fun as usual. :D After that, we watched Cowboy Bebop, which is fun. Not the GREATEST series in the world, but definitely worth watching. Then it was Gunslinger Girl, which I so utterly love. It's so cute... and disturbing. Of course, the cute is what MAKES it so disturbing in the first place. I'm also so utterly in love with the music and the art in it. Looooooooove! Then we watched episodes five and six of Pretear. I think, at this point, that it goes without saying that I love and adore that series. To itty bitty pieces. :p

Oh, and I finished my Fire Pretear skort! It turned out reall snazzy, I'm happy. :D Now I just need to make the blouse and the cape in the next two weeks. :p

We're having Pretear night on Friday. Much earlier than Escaflowne night so it's actually possible to make it to Toads on Saturday morning. Especially since I want to start working on my lab for Organometallics then.

Tomorrow, I need to do a pile of Organic and read the book for Soc. That's getting done while watching The Wizard of Oz. Then I need to hit the journals to figure out what I'm DOING for Organometallics. And find a paper to do my Kinetics project on, but I'm hoping it'll be something I come across while I'm designing my complex so I can do the project on an area of chemistry I find more interesting than Physchem.

Qotd:

"Clay Aiken is Desire's joke on the world."- Gwenna

My sister says the silliest things. :p

Duffy says I have to ask Langler about the special permission things. Now I'm not sure what to do, since you do NOT contact Langler by email. I guess I'll have to hope he actually checks his email if I want to sort this out before the semester starts.

Time for a random topic change! On the eighth day, Satan created the crotch seam. I suppose my misery is my own fault for opting for a skort because the skirt is too short, but still. Fire Pretear is coming along nicely now though. Hand sewing is a bit slow, but it's kinda soothing.

Another jump! I saw Narnia today! OMG LOVE! It was a good movie, and even more surprising, a GOOD ADAPTATION!

Even though I'm like the LAST person to see it... )
