It has occurred to me that I never actually posted about The Stolen Earth and Journey's End. :p
The Good:
Sarah Jane! Luke! Torchwood! Yes! So awesome! When the Doctor was all "Who's the boy? And this must be TORCHWOOD!" It was like he was meeting his grandchildren! :p
Jack/Sarah Jane OMG! I shipped it before, but now more than ever!
Oh Donna, you are SO FREAKING AWESOME.
Someone on TV didn't name their baby after someone! "What did you name him?" "Doctor." "Really?" "NO. He's called Tony." :p Go you Jackie!
Jack and Mickey! OMG!
Luke is so cute talking about what moving across the universe felt like. Only Luke. And he's so earnest and "Ooh! I has an idea!" and everyone else is all "Umm..." :p
The scene of everyone flying the TARDIS. So great!
The Could Have Been Better:
I really wanted the Doctor to meet Luke.
WTF Jack rebuffing Donna's advances?
The Arg:
Rose! GET OVER YOURSELF! I wanted to throw things at the screen in The Stolen Earth.
Rose gets a clone Doctor? WTF?
The POSITIVELY INFURIATING:
MY DONNA! How could they do that to MY DONNA? She came farther than anyone else in the new series. She had CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. You don't negate that much characer development!
I wish they'd killed her instead. I was ready for her to die. I had been preparing for weeks. There are ways to do character death right. There aren't ways to do complete negation of character development right. That kinda defeats the whole PURPOSE of character development.
I'm also SICK of people saying that we shouldn't call it a bad ending just because it was sad. the problem isn't that it was sad! Donna dying would have been sad, but it wouldn't have been such a horrible ending. Completely removing ALL THAT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT is a BAD ending plain and simple. You can kill a character and have that be a good resolution to their character arc. You can't send a character back to where they started characterwise and have THAT be a good resolution to their character arc! It makes the whole character development thing POINTLESS.
I'll admit that the Doctor probably took the best option available to him at the time. That's not the point. The point is that RTD DIDN'T. There were LOTS of ways to write Donna out that DIDN'T involve completely regressing her. Good RIDDANCE RTD you brainless ninnyhammer.
Maybe it wouldn't bother me if Donna hadn't grown so much more than ANYONE else in new Who. NONE of the other Companions got the kind of character development like my Donna. Taking that away is NOT a good ending. She was changed for the better! Too bad she wasn't changed for GOOD. :p
And yes, she wasn't MY Donna before this. This is kinda like MY JAINA. Characters aren't MINE until the writers treat them badly. When they're in full possession of their coolness, they don't need me. :p
I will admit that I get a kick out of Donna almost dying by exploding from her own awesomeness. :p
