Had an exam today. It was hard, but that course is notorious for its hard exam, so it's not like we were blindsided. It was just a very... interesting bunch of data to work through. So that's done with. :p

The Aida concept album is WEIRD. Instead of doing the usual thing and getting a bunch of musical types to record the music for the show in a way that it might be staged (though of course things usually end up changing between the concept album and the stage show. See: La Faute de Voltaire :p), it's a bunch of popstars. Not even obscure ones. It has Elton John (okay, he WROTE the thing, so that's not a surprise but...) LeAnn Rimes, Boyz II Men, Lulu, James Taylor, Shania Twain, Dru Hill, Sting, Tina Turner and...

I kid you not...

THE SPICE GIRLS. SO WEIRD.

Finally, I watched Remembrance of the Daleks today. It was great fun. I really like Seven and Ace. Seven's not QUITE as awesome as Four or Ten, but he's definitely up there. Ace can compete with Martha, though I doubt anyone will ever beat out Sarah Jane for my favourite companion. :p

The theme song from that era, on the other hand, I am not so in love with. Just because you have a synthesizer doesn't mean you should USE it. Basically it's very Y HALO THAR EIGHTIES! :p

Okay, first of all "Ace, hand me some of that Nitro 9 you're not carrying"= so much love. :p

I squeed a little at Coal Hill High School. Is that bad? :p And I love that the book on the French Revolution was still there. :p

Ace TOTALLY slept with Mike. Shame he turned out to suck. :p

I love how unapologetically bad the effects are. All the alien technology wiring is CHRISTMAS LIGHTS! And the Dalek screwer upper shoots confetti!

"Unlimited rice pudding!" :D

But the highlight of the episode...

It's 1963.

Ace turned on the telly.

And there's a message "Now stay tuned for a new adventure on the BBC's science fiction program Doctor..."

Cue me almost dropping my laptop because I'm laughing so hard. :p

So in conclusion, WIN. :p

You have no idea how greatly I regret losing the VHS tape with Remembrance of the Daleks on it. I really should, um, acquire the episodes.

Over X-mas, I watched multiple Spice Girls documentaries that Much was airing due to their reunion. The best was the one they made themselves, where they made constant references to their younger selves plans for World Domination, their subsequent achievement of World Domination, and how when you achieve World Domination you can only maintain it for a short while....

It seems like they're plotting again :)

I remembered when YTV aired Dr.Who [which looking back, was trippy to have watched as a kid], as well as Red Dwarf [watched some vhs I had recently, and it was great. I remembered the Backwards ep!].

Do you remember the TV Movie Fox made in the 90s?

On top of everything else, I love how Ace smashes Daleks up with a baseball bat. I love that old school companions are so practical in their approach to fighting Daleks. New school companions, learn by example! And that Seven did the licking analysis bit. The more I watch classic who episodes, the more I realise how many little nods there are to it. (The Doctor in Scotland is James McCrimmon, eh?)

I recently saw "The Ribos Operation", which was my first Four serial. I can see why he'd be a favourite! I love that the scarf is literally trailing around all the time. Kind of endeared to Romana I too!

Yeah, it was when YTV filled up it's later timeslots with BritComs and such [1991-ish?]. They also aired a good British hospital drama too..... Space aired Dr.Who when they launched, but it was all b+w episodes, and I never caught when they aired the stuff I had been watching from the 80's era that YTV ran....

You know they're making a movie of Aida.

The only problem is that Beyonce is going to be Aida and Christina Aguilera is going to be Amneris.

I don't know who they've got for Radames but if the name "Zac Efron" shows up connected to this project in anyway, I'm burning down the movie theatre.

That's what I said. Why can't they get the originals?

I don't really have a problem with Beyonce as Aida. Who knows, she might be good. But CHRISTINA AGUILERA!? I'm having a hard time with that one.

We should look on the bright side. It could have been Brittany Spears.

It's the only production of Aida in which Amneris stares blankly out into the audience has to be prodded by Radames and Aida to say her lines. Eventually they just give up and start saying them for her a la Lassie.

"What's that Amneris? You may leave a great impression, as you race towards sucession, but in your heart, you know it's rather sad?"

And yet, it'd STILL be better than having Christina Aguilera do it.
