I have never been so happy to have a reaction not do anything in all my life.

Yesterday I started my reaction with a different base than I'd been using before. Steve warned me that if I didn't leave the base and amine long enough before adding the boron, the boron might react with the base instead of the amine. When I added it, it instantly turned HIGHLIGHTER YELLOW. Now, the one time I'd managed to make the compound, it was yellow, but it didn't change colour that fast. So I was worried that I'd gotten the reaction with the base (why yes, I AM pessimistic! :p). TOday I put the boron in with JUST the base... and it STAYED CLEAR! yay for stuff NOT HAPPENING!

This means that the HUGE four coordinate peak I got in my boron NMR today was PRODUCT! I've finally managed to make the blasted compound again!

I am ridiculously happy and I don't CARE that none of you followed that! :p
